Woody Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Just heard about a report on Fox about the damaging effect of Sugar on the body. This is shocking. It says that sugar has the same negative effects on the brain as does Heroin or Cocaine. Good News though is that they did not mention anything about my particualar brand of poppies. I have never heard that about sugar either. No Taylor ... Fox does not release it's findings. They are secret. Neil would call them gossip and slander. Honestly ... I don't know. Perhaps if you went to the Fox web site. I haven't checked it out yet. I am too busy spreading Fox Gossip. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 Quote: In this fast age, the less exciting the food, the better. Condiments are injurious in their nature. Mustard, pepper, spices, pickles, and other things of a like character, irritate the stomach and make the blood feverish and impure. The inflamed condition of the drunkard’s stomach is often pictured as illustrating the effect of alcoholic liquors. A similarly inflamed condition is produced by the use of irritating condiments. Soon ordinary food does not satisfy the appetite. The system feels a want, a craving, for something more stimulating. Those are considered by many to be artificial sugars but would probably be more accurately described as manmade sweeteners to replace white granulated sugar. A natural sweetener that does not increase blood glucose levels is Stevia and can be found in blends in order to make it easier to measure for cooking and added sweetener for drinks, as well as pure Stevia which can be up to 600 times sweeter than white granulated sugar. It is my belief the only reason it has never found greater acceptance, therefor lower cost, in the public is because the sugar lobby has insisted it be classified as a supplement to make it less competitive. Anyone else have better info? Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Anyone else have better info? The only problem with Stevia is for Type 1 diabetics and insulin dependant Type 2's. It seems to slow down the glucose absorption which will and does cause a problem if you have active insulin in your system also. Otherwise I have heard of all the man-made sweetners, it is the best tasting one out there. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? cricket Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I've always thought that "man-made" sugars, or any sugars that aren't good for you, are the ones we add to our foods. In other words, if you're gonna have sugar, eat it straight from the cane--or straight from the orange, the apple...what have you. Quote
guibox Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It is my opinion that Stevia or Splenda in coffee instead of sugar is as much a sin as carob instead of chocolate. It all tastes yucky. Anyway.... Yes, sugar is a baddy. It is sad that so many jumped on the 'NO FAT!!!' bandwagon for so many years, when the real culprit for obesity and disease is actually sugar and chemical preservatives. Having said that, however, I plan to eat my share of chocolate and baked goodies this Christmas season. : ) Quote www.corbel.theacaistory.com

cricket Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 The problem is that too many products are adding sugar. It's virtually impossible to eat a well-rounded diet if you are eating processed foods. Hence--sugar added to foods is bad. And for the record, IMO, nothing is really man-made. God gave us every single thing on this planet. It's what we do with what's given to us that matters most. Quote
Members phkrause Posted December 17, 2008 Members Posted December 17, 2008 I do agree with your statement about to much of anything is bad. I believe that EGW talks about temperance in all things also. I think one of the things about sugar and some of the other foods is the way that they process them. Like white rice, white sugar, etc. There are organic sugars that you can use instead. And of course you have brown rice, etc. But as you mentioned all things in moderation, even those foods that are good for you. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Liz Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 This thread is not about EGW, but her name was brought up! Lets see now, EGW traveled around in a Buggy, powered by a horse. If she were alive today, would she do the same? Knowledge, science and life changes over time, growth. I would hate to think that we have stalled growth in our understanding of life and the world around us and kept it to the days of EGW. Give the lady a break, she used the resources of her day and times to form opinions and thoughts. We should use the resources of our point in time. (thats all, no more words about egw from me) The original intent of God was a world with out sin. Things have changed, greatly. With out the progress in food manufacturing, etc, more people would not be eating. There is not enough ground for everyone to grow their own gardens. We are no longer an agrarian society. Instead of always looking backward and saying that was better we have to look forward to a constant growth of improvement. People look at past events and hold them up instead of principles. LifeHiscost Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Instead of always looking backward and saying that was better we have to look forward to a constant growth of improvement. People look at past events and hold them up instead of principles. In principle I would have to agree, CoAspen. However what man decides is looking forward cost us the tree of life and the garden of Eden. Not to mention that my grandchildren will never be able to taste the enjoyment of tomatoes that were so nutritious and tasty that the little bugs couldn't leave them alone, and if left on the counter couldn't last a full 24 hours while now they will last about five days in the open and about 30 days in the refridgerator. Nor will they taste strawberries that are red to the core and sweet without artificial sweeteners, something called progress using genetics to improve upon God's original design. The reason for trying to get a longer lifespan that would resist vermin was well intended as the human population seemed to be outpacing the ability to grow and distribute enough food. However the solution probably could have been solved by putting the effort to kill each other, toward better pursuits such as using the same amount of time toward production instead of destruction. But then that's the price we must suck up in the name of progress. Cheers! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
