Being a Protestant (one who protests Roman Catholicism) I don't think I like this very much! I want the Wall of Separation to remain standing.

Now for any Catholics viewing this let me state that I don't hate you because of your religious beliefs, but I cannot accept them. There's only one way to heaven and it doesn't include the Pope.

Posted

Today, the Pope proclaimed "If people look only to their own interests, our world will certainly fall apart."

Well, I agree...but that can only happen as believers mature in the faith. Yet I think that the Pope needs a bit personal self-reflection. He needs to look at Christ's life as recorded in Luke 9:58

Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

Now if the Pope would compare himself with Christ I think He might come to the conclusion that he himself needs to have a little less self-importance and self-interest. Perhaps his holiness could look up Mark 9:35

"If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the slave of all."

Jesus is God and His character is evident to all. There is no self-seeking in His life. He is the Slave of all. He lives to serve. Nothing in Jesus smacks of self-importance, even though He is God! Because of this He deserves our worship and adoration.

Maybe the Pope should trade in his throne for a Lazy Boy. That way he would be heeding his own message.

Who is being served here?

pope-worship.jpg

He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

And you thought I just gave Traditional SDA a hard time?

Of course it changes every election cycle, as new people get elected, but typically Catholics represent a greater proportion of the population than they make up too. This would lead one to believe that the Catholic church encourages more political involvement than Protestant churches do. That is certainly true when compared to the Adventist church. However the Adventists do have two members in Congress which means about they represent 1.3 million constituents and there are only a million Adventist in the US and many of them do not attend church regularly. Currently the US Senate chaplain is an Adventist. So it is not as if the Adventists are under-represented in our government.

Personally, I think all Protestant' Pastors should renounce the Pope. Why the silence? I mean this irritates the heck out of me....Things like "His Holiness"..."infallibility"...and you have to go through him to get to Christ.

But the thing that gets me going is this "holiness" thing! He is a blooming sinner just like me! After all, Jesus said:

"No one is good but One, that is, God" [Matt 19:17]

And the Apostle Paul states the same:

"There is none righteous, no, not one" [Romans 3:10]

And Paul is right, that is, compared to Christ. That's why the mature Paul said (in the present continuous tense):

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I [Paul] am chief.

If Paul viewed himself as a sinner, compared to Christ, then the Pope should do the same. Maybe I should call him? Anyone got a phone number?

Just went to a Catholic website. They use the following to state that Peter was the first Pope:

Matt.16:18-19: "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Peter is not the rock. Christ is the rock. Pete was a sinner, even though he grew in grace.

Until folks understand what sin is they will continue to view themselves as holy Joes.

Again, what's the essence of sin?

Psalm 51:5. David was “shapen in iniquity” from his very birth. This was his spiritual condition since physically he was handsome [1 Samuel 16:12]. The primary meaning of iniquity is not an act but a condition. As a result of the fall, man by very nature is spiritually “bent,” so that the driving force of his very nature is love of self. Paul defines it as “the law of sin and death” [Romans 7:23; 8:2]. It is this condition that is the basis of all our sinning, and which makes us slaves to sin [Romans 3:9-12; 7:14].

Isaiah 53:6. Two things are revealed in this text. 1. Everyone of us has gone astray, since we have all turned or bent “to his own way.” 2. This own-way-ness (i.e., self-centeredness) is synonymous with iniquity, which was laid upon Christ our sin bearer; and it was this “sin in the flesh” that Christ “condemned” on the cross [Romans 8:2-3].

Iniquity, therefore, is simply seeking our own way, a condition we are born with and which (without a Saviour) makes it impossible to do genuine righteousness, since the law of God requires even our motives to be pure [Matthew 5:20-22, 27-28]. In contrast to iniquity or self-seeking is agape (divine love) which is of God and which “seeketh not her own” [1 Corinthians 13:5].

Isaiah 64:6. Because man by nature is “shapen in iniquity,” all the righteousness produced by him through his own efforts is like filthy rags before God, because it is polluted with self-love. According to Zech. 3:3, 4, “filthy garments” are equated with iniquity. In contrast to these filthy garments of ours (self-righteousness), the white raiment of Christ (His righteousness) is offered to the Laodicean church so that they may be truly clothed, and “the shame of [their] nakedness do not appear” before the judgment seat of God [Revelation 3:18; 10:3-4].

Matthew 7:22, 23. Self-righteous acts camouflaged or disguised in the name of Christ are exposed in the judgment and clearly identified as works of iniquity (i.e., works motivated by self-love). All Christians must consider this text seriously. Do our works originate from Christ and therefore motivated by agape, or are they the “fair shew in the flesh” [Galatians 6:12]? Are our works the result of a genuine relationship with Christ (i.e, works of faith) or are we working in His name but we really don’t know Him? [see also Luke 13:25-28.] JS

HEY ROBERT

some protestant ministers really don't see that much

difference in the CATHOLIC church and their church....

The problem then is that these ministers have a very limited view of sin if they really view the Pope as "His Holiness".

For some reason I decided to start reading daniel and the revelation by Uriah Smith. I read the first six chapters, the historical part of the book. Now I am half through with chapter 7, which is a very rich chapter. These comments fit in with what I am reading.

The main parts that Uriah Smith got wrong were about Turkey, or the "eastern question," and Armageddon. He taught that Armageddon is a literal battle to be fought in the mideast, involving wars against physical Jews.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

more and more people and even more and more pastors are

accepting the idea of unite. and even the ones that might

say the have a difference in ideas with the catholic church

still see some similarities that it is no longer that

much of a big deal any more....

That is exactly what Ellen White said would happen just before Christ returns. She said the Protestants would be the ones to make the fundamental changes so that they would hold similar views to the Catholics. The RCC only makes superficial changes.

The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation teach the same thing that Ellen White said.

HEY ROBERT

LIKE E.G. WHITE SAID

all the church will unite on 2 issues

the state of the dead and sunday sacredness

on these to points will the church think to unite

dgrimm60

Okay...but let's no over stress these secondary issues. Remember when I said that all false doctrines attack the gospel? So we need to understand how they attack it, right?

Simplistically, the immortality of the soul denies that mankind is completely void of righteousness. Hence, there's something good in mankind that returns to heaven when he dies. Notice, no need of a Savior here. So it attacks the fundamentals of the gospel.

Yes, outwardly folks can do good things, but remember God doesn't look at the act but rather the motive behind the act. That's why Paul states, in 1 cor 13:3 - "If I give all I possess to the poor..., but have not love [agape], it (the act) is meaningless."

Why? Because where there is "self" agape is polluted. That's because "agape...is not self-seeking". There's no self in agape. So the "good" things that I do (note I said "I do") is automatically polluted with "self" and therefore in heaven's eyes it is filthy rags.

Now, if I am depending on the things I do to save me, well, in the judgment I will be exposed and come up short. But if I am totally depending upon the righteousness of Christ for my ticket to heaven, then the fruits will be in harmony with the principle of agape. But "in harmony" is not the same as the fulfillment of the law. That's why we can never say "I have arrived (see EGW)", or as John says, "If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves."

Babylon is deluded. She thinks that she is doing good and therefore she is deserving of heaven. This is anti-gospel...or anti-Christ.

Now the Sabbath, in the end of time, will be a symbol of "justification by faith". Sunday, after the gospel is preached, will be a rejection of that restored gospel. At that time it will stand for "justification by works". It will be a sign of the beast power. So in the near future, Sunday as an outward sign, reflects the gospel one has accepted. The important thing is accept the correct gospel and everything else will line up!

That's the case now, for all those who know the truth about the Sabbath/Sunday issue. If a person knows and is convicted that Sunday is a false teaching and practice, and knows that the Sabbath was created for all mankind by Jesus Christ, and is the Sabbath of the Lord our God, it is obviously wrong not to keep it. We don't have to wait for some indefinite period of time when the Sabbath should be kept. God is calling people to do what they know to be right.

The gospel is being preached now. The gospel tells us to surrender our entire lives to Jesus Christ, place all of our faith in Him and prepare for His soon return. It tells us to obey the Word of God and not traditions, councils, and popes.

HEY JOE KNAPP

I thought the person had to be a judge or

at least in the law field to be considered for the

Supreme Court....

Earl Warren, a former Supreme Court Chief Justice, who started the supreme court tilting to the far left, was a former governor of Calif.

Jennifer Mulhern Granholm (born February 5, 1959 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian-born American politician, former Attorney General of Michigan, and the current Governor of the U.S. state of Michigan. A member of the Democratic Party, Granholm became Michigan's first female governor on January 1, 2003, when she succeeded Governor John Engler. Granholm was re-elected on November 7, 2006, and was sworn in for her second and, due to term limits, final term on January 1, 2007. She has been mentioned as a potential Supreme Court justice for President-elect Barack Obama, the winner of 2008 presidential election.[1] In the meantime however, she has been named a member of the transition team for the presidency of President-elect Obama.[2] Granholm then earned a Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School, also with honors. She clerked for U.S. Judge Damon Keith on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1986 she married current First Gentleman Daniel Mulhern, a Michigan native, and took his surname as her middle name. They have three children: Kathryn, Cecelia, and Jack. In 1990 she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. In 1994, she was appointed Wayne County Corporation Counsel.

She is well qualified. There is just one problem. There are to many of one religion on the SC.

We can love the person without approving of the system. You are fine...course I didn't read every single post here but you are still fine. :)

The conservative Republicans have chosen the Catholic justices for their conservatism.

Catholics are not the only conservatives to choose. When a President decides to appoint a judge to the federal bench the person has to be a judge or a lawyer first. The fact that so many Catholics have been chosen leads one to believe that more Catholics go to law school than other conservative religions. More Adventists go to medical school than other religions so it isn't that hard to grasp when put in that context.
