Woody Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I was asked to repost this in a new thread for more discussion on this issue: Quote: Richard, this was an uncalled for statement. Both you and Icabod etal were having an awesome debate. Why the slur? I would like to see an apology given to ichabod. There are rules about besmurching another members character. Amelia Okay. I don't mean to offend anyone. But I have a serious question regarding the rules as follows: "If you feel that a member is flouting the rules, don't take it public and post on the board. Take it to the PM. Every member can be contacted through PMs." I know the rules are not in effect yet. And I do not mean to be disrespectful to Amelia. But this is a good example of the concerns I have for the rules. Under the above rule ... is the discussion quoted from Amelia and also by others in this thread ... allowed under the new rules? Just a question ... ??? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators Bravus Posted January 1, 2009 Moderators Posted January 1, 2009 As I said in the other thread, Amelia is an administrator (indicated by her name being a different colour), and was acting in that capacity. Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 She was NOT acting in that capacity. She did not identify herself. And I am not a moderator nor am I an Administrator and yet I have a color in my name. I am not aware of any statement anywhere that says those who have colored names are Administrators or Moderators. If there is any such rule ... please point it out to me and the rest of the folks. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted January 1, 2009 Moderators Posted January 1, 2009 Yeah, I should be more careful of speaking for Amelia. I'm sure she'll be by in a bit to straighten this out. As a more general comment, then, I suggest that you are misapplying the rules in this question: sometimes disciplinary actions need to be public so that justice can be seen to be done. So there will be things moderators can and should say publicly that general members shouldn't. I do agree with your suggestion that moderators should say something like "speaking as a moderator now" in these instances, and I try to do that when acting 'officially'. And of course, it would be lovely to have perfect, impartial, 24/7 moderators... but we're stuck with humans who have lives. Quote Truth is important
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 1, 2009 Members Posted January 1, 2009 Erhmm...someone else has almost the same color to her name as Amelia and is not an Admin. That perplexed me for quite some time. Perhaps that should be rectified so all Admins are one color and all Mod names are one color. And no one else can have those particular colors for their names. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Woody Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 This brings up the question ... Does Admin. intend to allow the moderator of the forum to run their forum as they please ... or are they also a moderator of each forum. I don't have any preference .... but I just bring up the question because it is very confusing to me. SO, a word of clarification would be helpful. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 Erhmm...someone else has almost the same color to her name as Amelia and is not an Admin. That perplexed me for quite some time. Perhaps that should be rectified so all Admins are one color and all Mod names are one color. A simple soulution would be to have 'moderator' or 'administration' below their names. The color thing means nothing to me. Since I am color blind ... I have absolutely no idea what color is close to another. But even if you have to have colors ... it should be clearly identified in a visible place for all to see what they mean. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. bygjymbo Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Maybe Admins could always use italics when they're posting in their official capacity? Oh, wait a minute...that might not work :-) Quote

Neil D Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 This brings up the question ... Does Admin. intend to allow the moderator of the forum to run their forum as they please ... or are they also a moderator of each forum. I don't have any preference .... but I just bring up the question because it is very confusing to me. SO, a word of clarification would be helpful. As I understand so far, and anyone of the Moderators can clarify this, Amelia has posted the following rules and as I understand it, these are hard rules...ie EVERYONE must abide by them. Application of those rules are by the moderator... here are the rules- Rules for posting On Adventistforum: 1) Don't call names or make personal attacks against other members. 2) No belittling of individual members, their character, or their motives. 3) Only rebut issues, NOT the members who write them. 4) Don't put words in other people's mouths that they have never said. (This does not, of course, prohibit quoting their words from previous posts.) 5) Don't denigrate whole groups of people by the use of name-calling or negative stereotypes. 6) Don't post on the public threads personal differences, arguments, or old grudges, etc. 7) No commercial messages, or spamming. Commercial links / messages are only allowed on your own personal profile page. 8) Listen to, and cooperate with, moderators. (If you have a problem with a moderator, who has identified that they are acting in their role as a moderator, take it to PM immediately. Challenging the decisions of moderators who are acting in that role in the open forum is not acceptable behavior.) The above rules will be enforced by the moderators and administrators. Enforcement may take the form of editing, deleting, warnings, and, as a last resort, suspension or banning. The moderators will apply the rules as they judge to be of benefit to their various threads, according to its tone and conditions. If you feel that a member is flouting the rules, don't take it public and post on the board. Take it to the PM. Every member can be contacted through PMs. Where the moderators are talking at now, is the application of these rules...For example, in my forum, the pirates forum, we WANT you to call each other PIRATE names, like Redwood is nothing more than a bilge rat. According to the rules of the pirate forum, that's an enderment....Land Lubber is always an insult... But generally speaking, EVERYONE can follow the above rules without problems...It's the other forums, theology and political forums that have the worst records and the most tensions... And there will be guidelines...things to help you stay within the rules, things to practice....in every forum....some, like mine, in a twisted mannor.[heheheheh] <-I like that...reminds me of me..kinda twisted. And becareful of what you say about that, Redwood! [g] Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
