Ben_White Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 On various rock music sites it is suggested that Ozzy Ozborne former lead singer of Black Sabbath was raised in an SDA family, what confuses people is that many of Black Sabbaths early songs contain openly Christian Lyrics which appears a contradiction in terms considering their reputation. Black Sabbath have a song entitled "The Sabbath Stones", former lead singer Tony Martin has this to say about the song in answer to a query from a fan on a fan site, 40) A song that I didn't understand was The Sabbath Stones. Can you please tell me what it's about? (Alon Lessel) It’s about GOD! Therefore the keeper of the Sabbath Stones is God. And the Sabbath Stones are? …. Why am I telling you this, I’m supposed to be putting it in my site. Whatever, …. I’ll still put it in my site. The Sabbath stones are … The Ten Commandments. Duz that help? Seems interesting that Black Sabbath would write a song about the Ten Commandments then call it after the Sabbath Commandment? No doubt any Christian influence could do this, yet it would seem to me that the Ten Commandments and the Sabbath are far more promoted in the SDA churches. Anyway here are the lyrics to the song! Black Sabbath lyrics - The Sabbath Stones album: Tyr (1990) Fire and water, wind and rain wings that carry hell in every vein World possessions, endless taers truth and knowledge stolen all their years World turns slowly, sun don't shine Silence stills the air and kills the chime Words are poison, passion bleeds 2000 years on earth has sown the seeds The time of dreams has turned The night is gone and light shines on Where darkness once would hide With spirits high, our fears were born CHORUS: Receiver of light, the kingdom of God will guide you Keep you from a restless heart Deceiver of night, the stranger that laughs within you, the reason for the restless heart is the keeper of the Sabbath Stones Fire and water, wind and rain wings that carry hell in every vein World turns slowly, sun don't shine Silence stills the air and kills the chime Can faith destroy desire? Each breath a prayer each step brings fear The eyes of they that see have evil stare Watch over me CHORUS and He's the keeper of the Sabbath Stones What God is this that stands to hear his people cry? What hand would strike and watch his people die? What life that takes, what future did we earn? It's our mistakes, take heed the Sabbath Stones What life that takes what future did we earn? It's our mistakes Quote
Stan Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 He does not come from an Adventist background, that has been researched in the past.. bygjymbo Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 It depends on who you call God. Remember, Satan is the god of this world. Quote: 2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Luciferians call him the "wronged one" and insist that the gospel is backwards. Look again at those lyrics. Quote
bygjymbo Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Luciferians and Satanists are opposite sides of the same coin. I've had the priviledge of knowing a couple of true Satanists. They know more about the truth than most Christians. They just don't accept it. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 2, 2009 Moderators Posted January 2, 2009 Do we know who wrote those lyrics? Was it Tony Martin or Ozzy (or Ronnie James Dio)? Black Sabbath are certainly not Satanists, whatever else they may be. I'm not going to them for theological lessons or anything, but once again, it's important that we be willing to tell the truth about people. Lots of their lyrics address religious topics, and quite often from a perspective we could support. But I never listen to them, for a variety of reasons including some of their other lyrics that don't. Telling the truth, rather than giving in to and publishing our most fevered imaginations, is surely something crucial for our witness. Quote Truth is important
bygjymbo Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 You're right, Bravus. I can't say with certainty that they are Satanists. Even if we ignore all the media hype, it sure appears that way. But that COULD be pure marketing. Or maybe a little of both. The main reason for my post was to expain the backward use of the Gospel and how references to God aren't always what they appear to be. Robert Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Here's another song off the same album. You can read the religious overtones: Rocket engines burning fuel so fast Up into the night sky they blast Through the universe the engines whine Could it be the end of man and time Back on earth the flame of life burns low Everywhere is misery and woe Pollution kills the air, the land and sea Man prepares to meet his destiny Rocket engines burning fuel so fast Up into the night sky so vast Burning metal through the atmosphere Earth remains in worry, hate and fear With the hateful battles raging on Rockets flying to the glowing sun Through the empires of eternal void Freedom from the final suicide Freedom fighters sent out to the sun Escape from brainwashed minds and pollution. Leave the earth to all its sin and hate Find another world where freedom waits. Past the stars in fields of ancient void Through the shields of darkness where they find Love upon a land a world unknown Where the sons of freedom make their home Leave the earth to satan and his slaves Leave them to their future in the grave Make a home where love is there to stay Peace and happiness in everyday Here's the song for you old headbangers: Into the void Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 2, 2009 Moderators Posted January 2, 2009 Yep. Nah, I meant Tony Martin, the Black Sabbath vocalist in the late 80s, who sang on the 'Tyr' album that the original quoted song came from. Not actually sure who wrote the lyrics without a bit more research. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted January 2, 2009 Moderators Posted January 2, 2009 Ah, yeah, it was Tony Martin. http://www.black-sabbath.com/discog/tyr.html Quote Truth is important
guibox Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I was a HUGE Ronnie James Dio fan in the 80s. I still like to listen to some of his songs. Black Sabbath got their name from a Boris Karloff movie and not any specific religous (or occultic) affiliation. Tony Iommi was avidly interested in the occult but I'd say that drugs and Satanic gimmick was the driving force behind Black Sabbath and many other supposedly Satanist bands. I think that promoting the devil even tongue in cheek cannot be excused, especially when you don't believe in what you are promoting to people who will believe. It is irresponsible. Not believing in your message doesn't excuse some of the blatantly Satanic/anti-God songs Sabbath has written. 'Who Are You' from the 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' album freaked me out like crazy as a kid. The lyrics are quite blasphemous and I will not repeat them here. Having said that though, Sabbath and even Slayer have NOTHING on most Death Metal bands (especially the Norwegian ones)out there like Deicide, Gorgoroth, Morbid Angel and a host of other bands. These guys are nothing more than true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Satan worshippers with instruments in their hands. Quote www.corbel.theacaistory.com
Sharon10 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Just a little comment to this column in regard to Ozzys faith. Ozzy appeared to have been raised a Catholic, wheter he has attended Adventist Schools I do not now but there is nothing who looks like he ever has been an adventist. Many people has been in our schools..that do not make them adventists. Also I think the mix up of theology and mystisism in Roman Catholic way of thinking could count for much of the mix up and mystisism in the texts of Ozzy. It certainly is no Adventism there. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Ozzy-Osbourne-548/2009/6/ozzy-2.htm http://en.allexperts.com/q/Ozzy-Osbourne-548/ozzy-religion.htm Quote
