True-believer Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hello everyone, I had a very lovely Sabbath last weekend and well it was a Filipino/Australian Adventist Retreat, and that went really awesome. I felt God's presence and His Holy Spirit through the whole retreat. I know for sure--for a fact that God wants me to be a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, but... I can't become one without severe pressure and persecutions from my own Pentecostal mother, and if I do persue in my membership to be an Adventist, my mother will disown me as her son. She will have no more contact with me at all. In my whole life I have been really close to her. But now, I feel very distant from her because she doesn't see what I see, she can't see the truth like I can see it--please pray for her and myself. Pray that I'll be able to overcome this very hard trail in my life. Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Ben_White Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Luke, One problem that seems pretty hard for people outside of the Seventh Day Adventist Church to understand is that the SDA have moved their belief structure as the Holy Spirit led the formation of the denomination. One example is that the orginal Adventist Church did not actually keep the Sabbath and there still is a church called the "Advent Christian Church" which shares the same founders - The Millerites that meets each Sunday and does not accept the Sabbath teaching. It was a Seventh Day Baptist lady that influenced the early Adventists towards the acceptance of the Ten Commandments and the keeping of the Sabbath. Those that didnt accept the teaching formed the Advent Church. There are some early Adventist writers who write against the Godhead doctrine of the church, a doctrine that is now held by the SDA. So one could in theory pick up some information condeming the SDA which quotes from this literature and assume that the SDA is anti the Godhead teaching, yet nothing in fact could be further from the truth. The same scenario goes on about various other things people think are factual about the SDA based on similar reasoning. Consider this snippet from Wikipedia and imagine how people in this denomination might feel if we turned around and stated that this was still the case because of early teachings from these people? (AOG - your Mum's denomination) Many of these congregations sought to partner with existing religious movements, such as the Christian and Missionary Alliance, but many Pentecostals left following controversy over the doctrine of “The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.” These early leaders were licensed as ministers by Charles Harrison Mason, founder of the Church of God in Christ, a predominately African-American denomination. The Church of God in Christ provided initial credentials to the mostly white Pentecostals who would later form the Assemblies of God. [7]. Jim Crow laws of the South and other racial cultural norms of the early 20th century America contributed to the early demise of racial unity with these Pentecostal leaders with the predominately African-American Church of God in Christ denomination. Morepork Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Hello Luke, I would encourage you to remember what you heard at the wonderful retreat you went to. You heard truth, and you want to stay with that, because the truth sets us free. Sadly, Satan uses the ones we love the most here on earth to distract us away from truth, and while the thought of having no further contact with you Mother seems unbearable, reality is, that not following Jesus in truth would become more unbearable. Satan's deception is for you to keep a relationship with your dear Mother at all costs, but he doesn't tell you that the cost of that is loosing out on eternal life. Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 There are 19 verses in the Bible that use the word courage! God is with you!
