Pretty sad, especially sad that Congress knows and they don't care... they look the other way.

You could be my grandfather. Living that long deserves some acknowledgment in itself . I hope many more years for you to come.

Yet, the concept is very important in understanding the today's order. There are two types of contracts. There are the ones that companies bid on, and the ones that just given to companies with costs considered later.

Now, if we indeed realize that people at the highest power are in fact corrupt cronies looking out for each other's interests... than it's all fine and dandy and there's no need for this post. Unfortunately, most of the Evangelical population believes that our present government stands for higher morality, and specifically Christian morality. In which case the above video would pose a couple of problems for such view.

Now, the leading question is ... how much does our government care for self-preservation and self-interests vs. caring for the public needs?

Especially considering that congress just approved raise in their salaries with millions loosing their jobs outside of the Capitol employment.

As the 107th soldier was brought home from Afghanistan just one week into the new year, and with the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip intensifying and ignoring the UN Security Council, we have to wonder what we’ve learned since the Second World War. The UN was created with the express purpose of preventing yet another world war, or act of what would later be termed genocide. However, there hasn’t been much prevention. When you consider the observations made by a person who’s lived through both world wars, Vietnam, the Gulf War and every other war in between and after, you have to wonder what it is that we’re doing. Mariette Barszczewicz, turned 100- years-old earlier this week.

And while she was willing to talk about what she did during the Second World War, all she could say about the war itself was that witnessing one week’s worth of bombings in Poland was enough for her. In fact, that week was motivation enough for Barszczewicz, then 30-yearsold, to walk 300 kilometers across treacherous country covered in German snipers to be reunited with her husband. The motivation continued and helped the young Belgian to learn French and remain in France working with the Red Cross for the duration of the war.

What has changed from this woman’s perspective to our perspective now? Media coverage giving us daily accounts of the brutality visited on “our enemies” and our troops in various parts of the world. We have a view into the theatre of war like never before.

Regardless of the images that flash across our television sets, the bloody images that grace our computer screens, and the in depth news coverage contained within the pages of our newspapers, the military-industrial complex that Dwight D. Eisenhower warned Americans of years ago continues. War profiteers were once people shunned by society and punished by the law. Now, they are our friendly neighbourhood retailers of oil products, manufacturers of robotics, and steel producers and the list goes on. So steeped are we in the machinery of

war that we can no longer see the human death toll involved in the conflict as shocking. For the new year, let’s hope that we can all gain the perspective that comes with 100 years of wisdom. And, let’s all do something to stop our troops from being brought home in coffins.
