Here is a brief statement of the issue:

"The news that a woman pastor and gospel evangelist has joined the Voice of Prophecy broadcast team as part of VOP's new format beginning January 3-4 has ruffled the feathers of concerned Adventist fundamentalists.

RADIO 74, an independent FM radio network available by satellite, has traditionally broadcast Voice of Prophecy programs over the years. After the change was made at VOP, RADIO 74 announced on its website that they're pulling the plug on the daily VOP broadcast, which features pastor Elizabeth Talbot and Faith for Today speaker/director Mike Tucker.

The RADIO 74 press release states,

THEOLOGICAL REVISIONS AT THE VOP

The new VOP administration has altered the fundamental character and content of this program in modernist directions which we find incompatible with strict adherance to the Word of God.

For example, one of the new VOP associate speakers is identified as a woman "pastor", something for which there is no Scriptural precedent.

RADIO 74, ever vigilant and seeking to remain totally faithful to the word of God, cannot in good conscience be part of this and other changes at the VOP.

We shall not confuse our listeners with conflicting theological viewpoints, especially in these final days before the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Consequently, tearfully and with great regret, we announce that, as from January 2009, RADIO 74 can no longer broadcast the VOP."

There are several reasons why VOP broadcast doesn't appeal to me as much any more, but it's not because of the woman minister. I know her personally, and she's a devoted Christian. What she has to say will no doubt touch many hearts.

To discontinue broadcasting a program just becase it has a woman speaker is illogical. As Jesus said, If you stop spreading the gospel, the stones will then cry out [my paraphrase].

The word will get out, in spite of the change. That radio station will be the loser because they're no longer being used as an instrument of the gospel.

Good points Jeannie. But the conservatives will rally behind the station. It will serve their purposes. Granted ... it will not serve the Gospel well. But it will turn into a turf battle.

THAT BEING SAID... it is my opinion AND

I think it is important that we allow religious liberty INSIDE the Church, and some respect for those are not persuaded for in some of the matters that I am.

Perhaps we need to fund a new internet radio station Radio77

I also have to say that I really appreciate the new format of the weekly show with Fred Kinsey and Team..

I have not missed one of his broadcasts...

I didn't even realize VOP was available on an internet radio station....

The problem is we belong to a world wide church. In many cultures this is unacceptable. Just wait a minute. If this program were aired in those areas our church members could adjust. But the other denominations local christian churches would attack us verbally and in the press. It would have a very bad effect. This is the reason the world church opposes womens ordination. Not just because they disagree but the fallout is so great. Remember the church is growing by a million a year. In some places its already being attacked. No need to throw gas on the fire.

I am sad that VOP has made this choice because I know the problems it would cause if this program spread around the world.

Sometimes we can win the battle and lose the war.

I see the woman "pastor" on the radio, and being a woman evangelist, as being different from a pastor or elder of a congregation. From my perspective, I see nothing that contradicts the Bible about women in the role of speaker and evangelist on a radio program.

I know there will be lots of people who disagree with that viewpoint, but that's how I see it.
