Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 14, 2009 Author Moderators Posted January 14, 2009 For a brief statement: "Legal briefs representing the views of the hierarchies of the Seventh-day Adventist, Methodist and Presbyterian churches had been included as part of a California lawsuit filed by the Episcopal Church asserting the property rights of the larger denomination over against that of a local church. On Monday, January 6, the California State Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Episcopal Church hierarchy that local congregations that sever ties with their denomination could lose their church buildings since the property on which the churches stand are the property of the denomination. Several observers have noted the irony of the Adventist Church's support of this case since, in the case of the Episcopal Church, over 700 conservative Episcopal congregations had already broken away from the parent church because the parent church had ordained a gay man as bishop of New Hampshire in 2003. In the view of one observer, it appears that "property rights will always trump mere theological differences." Source: Los Angeles Times " Quote Gregory
Woody Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Thank for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately ... my paid subscription is not being recognized so I can't read the issue. I guess they recently did some 'upgrade' that 'downgraded' me personally. I am considering being insulted. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won.
