I would add "a Christian without Jesus. There are many who call themselves Christians but don't act like it. I'm not sure that we would want to know!

What some posts would be like if we were NOT Bible believing Christians..

What would the rules look like then?

Actually, many of the forums I participate or lurk in (on subjects like music, medical stuff, etc), are much more respectful and considerate in tone than those populated by "Bible-believing Christians".

I do not know the religious makeup of these other forums, as we generally do not talk about religion or identify ourselves as "I am a (insert religious affiliation here)."

But one thing is for sure - if somebody new comes to a forum and their early posts include the words "I am a Bible-believing Christian" - then they will soon say something calculated to stir up controversy, start a flame war, and get themselves booted off the forum.

Some of the things people say to each other here on this forum of "Bible-believing Christians" would never be tolerated on a secular forum by thoughtful and considerate atheists.

Remember that line in an old song "They will know we are Christians by our love"?

We should only need one rule, the golden one.....

I belonged to a pagan-run forum at one time. They didn't have loads of rules, but the ones they *did* have encouraged members to treat each other with respect and be responsible in their postings. Mods and Admins, for the most part, did their jobs well in keeping everyone in line.

Really, the Golden Rule was the rule they went by, but they didn't know it.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Okay Nan ... I will go along with that. But when I said a rule or two ... at least I was 50% right. Give me SOME credit.

Just an honest question, How do we know that they are all "atheists"? Do they say that they are?

Jesus did say that there would be people in His kingdom who were not "religious" and He even said something about those who were "religious" might not even be there.

Seems that we need to reevaluate our own connection with and love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. I very much agree with the "Do unto others ..." rule. If Christians really followed this one rule there wouldn't even be a need for any other.

When a forum's focus is things like music, health, photography (I've been in a couple of those) there isn't all that much to argue about. Try checking out some no-holds-barred secular forums focused on more controversial stuff if you want to see truly vicious and even obscene posts. I've accidentally stumbled onto some like that. Trust me, it definitely gets worse than here. Much, much worse.

I believe that a lot of "non-religious" people will be in heaven - just because they have rejected the wrong ideas of God and religion that they have been taught throughout their life, does not mean they have rejected God.

If someone follows the "Golden Rule" and treats their neighbor as they would wish to be treated, that is evidence that the Holy Spirit is working on them - they are following the inner voice of conscience which God has given every human being, and they are open to God continuing to influence them.

It is interesting that the "Golden Rule", or a similar wording, is found in every world religion (some of which pre-date Christianity, e.g. Judaism, Zoroastrianism and the ancient Greek and Roman religions), and even in the constitution of atheist and humanist organizations.

When Christ taught it to His followers, He was not introducing something new - he was reminding people to obey what they already knew.
