Doug Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Have any of you ever tried Miracle Fruit? It is a fruit you can buy, or tablets made from the fruit that turn acidic and sour foods sweet. I bought a packet for myself and a friend and tried it today and it really works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_fruit They say they give this to cancer patients because it masks the metallic taste that foods have after chemotherapy. You can buy the tablets at Think Geek I have tried these items. Tomatoes: I bought some of the small tomatoes at the store and before I received the tablets the tomatoes tasted terrible, maybe not ripe enough but after the tablets they tasted sweet, actually too sweet like someone dipped them in sugar, I couldn't eat more than a couple. Raw Lemon Juice: It made it taste like liquid Lemon Drops candy Pomegranate Vinegar: Not a huge improvement but was hard to drink due to the smell. OJ: This was the best, it tasted like melted creamsickle. Grapefruit juice: also tasted really sweet, but you could still taste some of the acidity. Chocolate cake: We had cake there and I could only take a small bit because it was so sweet. Quote
aldona Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Does anybody know whether you can get this stuff in Australia? aldona (incurable church-potluck-practical-joker, starting to hatch a devious scheme...) Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 18, 2009 Members Posted January 18, 2009 for that sneaky Aldona!!! where to buy miracle fruit around the world Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
nuff sed Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Yeah, I think that if you Google "Miracle Fruit Australia" you will come up with quite a number of sites. I think that I remember sometime back a dicsussion about it growing in Australia. I don't see why not. The nursery where I got my bush says that you can keep them in a 7 gallon pot indefinitely. Aldona... Nurserymen who had some of the plants would have some unsuspecting person eat a berry or two. Then they would say, "Hey , have you tried this extra-special Persian lime. It is as sweet as an orange"... The unsuspecting person would buy some, take them home and have a rude awakening several hours later after the effects of the Miracle Fruit wore off. It was interesting last night that Doug and I got into a discussion on Miracle Fruit. I was mentioning the fruit trees I had that I was afraid of losing due to frost and Miracle Fruit was one of them. We had a good discussion. Pine Island Nursery in Pembroke Pines, Florida is the place where I got mine about five or six years ago. They are considerably more expensive nowadays. Quote
Beryl Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Any idea what the sugar/sucrose/fructose/etc content of the Miracle Fruit is? Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.
aldona Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Any idea what the sugar/sucrose/fructose/etc content of the Miracle Fruit is? I've read about this fruit somewhere - it's not the sugar/fructose etc in the fruit (I believe the amount is actually quite low, and the miracle fruit itself doesn't taste all that spectacular), but it has some kind of substance in it that actually scrambles your taste buds so your tongue thinks it is sensing sweetness when it really isn't. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? nuff sed Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Beryl asked, "Any idea what the sugar/sucrose/fructose/etc content of the Miracle Fruit is?" The fruit is so tiny that I don't think it would make much difference. 3/4 of an inch long by 1/4 inch wide would be a big one. You don't eat it for any food value or even because it tastes good.....just as a novelty to try out acid based foods. I have never eaten more than two at a time. Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted January 19, 2009 Moderators Posted January 19, 2009 I wonder if the Miracle Fruit works on the same principle (or has a similar make-up) as stevia. It kind of sounds like it. I grew stevia in my garden this year, but never had the nerve to try it. LynnDel Quote LD
nuff sed Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 No,,,, Stevia tastes sweet on almost anything...sickeningly sweet as far as I am concerned..... Miracle Fruit doesn't call attention to itself by tasting particularly sweet when you eat it. It is afterwards when you partake of acid-based foods that you receive the effect of the food being sweet instead of sour or acid. My bush is all wrapped up with an electric blanket tonight as frost is predicted. Quote
Kakopedi Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Apparently, miracle fruit makes cigarettes taste terrible. I heard its used to help you give up smoking. Quote
nuff sed Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I would really be interested to know if Miracle Fruit affects smoking. I am going to give some fruits to a friend of mine who can't seem to quit. I will report the results here.. Nuff Sed Quote
nuff sed Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I forgot about it but hope to see him on Thursday.... Nuff Sed Quote
Moderators Kevin H Posted April 18, 2012 Moderators Posted April 18, 2012 For information on stop smoking google Dr. Linda Ferry, from there you should find some fantastic resources Quote
nuff sed Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 If you will notice very carefully this thread was about Miracle Fruit, not resources to stop smoking. This is the way that threads get hijacked into other directions. The smoking aspect was only mentioned in the context of Miracle Fruit. Let's stick to the subject. Nuff Sed.... Quote
Wadez85 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 love the miracle berry its a great experience as far as smoking goes no it doesn't really change smoking much it certainly doesn't make it taste any worse than it already does. If anything it tastes slightly different hard to describe though I would say ultimately it was better with miracle fruit. So being used to give up smoking I can't really understand. Miracle fruit has many aspects to it beneficially for health though for dieting, Regaining appetite for Chemotherapy patients also encouraging people to eat healthy especially kids who can be fussy eaters when it comes to Fruit & Veg.
