Guest Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I just received my first edition of the (PUC) Recorder for 2005. As usual, I read the presidents message first. Wheweeee!!! Here is the link...but make sure the one you read is Volume 105 Number 1.. http://www.pacificunionrecorder.com/ The one up on the site as of this post is the last one of 2004. Here is the link...look for the Pres message when it gets to the site.. I haven't read something in the Recorder, like this, since 1978 or 1979?? Now...any brave souls out there? Quote
Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 IT'S UP! http://www.pacificunionrecorder.com/105/1/24664.html Maybe..this is good...maybe we shouldn't be friendly...or else...they would stay and be subjected to 3 offerings during the worship service and cell phones going off and noisy infants all during the service.. maybe the members are frustrated by the distractions and can't be friendly. I don't mind too much anymore.. I have my Baptist buddy to go listen to...he delivers 3 times the sermon of almost all SDA preachers I ever heard...and his church, which is 3 times larger than the one I go to.. has people who know how to behave in church...they are respectful of the person(s) up front. Now to cut and paste to reply to Tom. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 11, 2005 Moderators Posted January 11, 2005 We don't do offerings at our church - there are envelopes in the back of the pews and a box at the back of the church, and it's completely freewill. And we do about as well as most churches, without having it in people's faces... Quote Truth is important
Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Thanks for the input Bravus... Ya see..the PUC pres office is in Westlake Village..part of the cursed Southern California.. ya know..the place where the song says they say it never rains in Southern California... probably will never get the latter rain either.. but, but, but... I need to be positive... ok God WINS! Jesus loves all the little children..red and yellow... This little light of mine... Keep your eyes on Jesus..He will never leave or forsake anyone...not Hitler or Stalin or Osama or even Satan... He loves everyone.. Quote
Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Ya mean you don't have someone up front quoting malachi every week??? Ye have ROBBED ME!!!!! Quote

Pockey Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 I can relate to that lady in the article. Having just moved to a new area, I've been visiting different churches and have had similar experiences. Just this past Sabbath, I was walking to my car, and saw this one fellow about my age, and I nodded and smiled. He kind've looked at me like "what the heck?" Hehe. But it's cool, I'm still going to go back to that church of course. I loved the sermon and the diversity there. And about Sunday churches. I've also wanted to check some of them out during the week. I've met random strangers who have invited me there. They seem to be so on fire for Jesus. Quote

Michelle Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Especially living in mainland areas visitors tend to be ignored. In HI, they are very obviously noticed and reached out to, etc (most of the churches have a putluck every Sabbath just so that tourists/visitors don't have to look for someplace to go after church). Here, visitors are very obviously noticed and reached out to as well. In our former church in MI, depends on your demographics--if you had young children, most of the time you're ignored (the others of your demographic group are too busy with their own kids, and no one else wants to be bothered with small kids!). If you're young adult with no kids, you're welcomed right away by the leaders of the young adult group which was very active/flourishing/nurturing (the main area of growth in that church). If you're middle age, depends. I just joined a SS group that my husband does NOT teach. Enjoyed my first week there. (actually studied the adult lesson for the first time in 7 years, which was really different!) We sit wherever the boys lead us to in church (hopefully not too near the front in case we need to make an exit!). JimBob--I think about you and cell phones here. They are so prevalent in HK that there are some pretty bizarre things I've seen on the platform. Once the speaker's or translator's (I remember who it was, but don't remember if he was preaching or translating) mobile phone rang, and he just calmly handed it to someone else on the platform and went on speaking. Other times I've seen when our pastor is on the platform but not preaching, he's answered his phone and just talked right there on the platform, covering his mouth with his hand. No one thinks anything of it. Really strange. You'd love it! M Quote

As far as I am concerned...there should be NOBODY else up on the platform when the speaker is delivering the message. I do not yield on this, no compromise, and those who give some Aaron, Hur excuse are CLUELESS. I have seen people doing other stuff up there, talking , sleeping...it is PATHETIC and BARBARIAN. There should be some brave GIDEON/prophet type to go up and get in their face...!! Heads up...there are SONS OF SATAN AND DAUGHTER OF THE DEVIL IN THIS CHURCH...and some even get paid TITHE. Quote

Those involved sit in the front pew and go up to the desk on onto the rostrum as needed. OTOH there are other things that would not make you happy there so dont rush to Oz to see us <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Quote
Guest Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 thanks for the input.. down the yellow brick road....down the yellow brick road.. Toto, Toto..where are you??? What in the world did you do with your hair...you been to Hollywood?? Quote
Kimberly Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 What's your issue Jim Bob? You sound so angry about the SDA church, why would you stay in it at all??????? Go to your buddy's church and maybe you will find what you need. You are so negative, this casts a bad light on the church for us new visitors considering joining. Maybe I should go to the Baptist church down the street from me??? Kim Quote
Kimberly Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Or are you just being sarcastic, Jim Bob? You sound serious with all this anger directed towards the SDA church. You should check out www.carm.org. They have a debate board on the church and there are a lot of people there that can't stand the SDA church. I came here to find people that might like it. Kim Quote
Guest Posted January 13, 2005 Posted January 13, 2005 Thanks for the question. issue?...naaa..not singular...plural..issues. Ever been to a restaurant you like because of the food, service and ambiance?? How about where the service is bad, the food is cold or cheap portions, the silverware is dirty, the glasses have lipstick on them, the waiter or waitress is rude..the place is noisy and filthy... get it?? I am a baptized SDA for over 30 decades..but have been to other churches...especially the ones with very competent pastor teacher who teach the word in a clear and relevant way and the scripture exposure is much more than most SDA churches I have attended (with a very few encouraging exceptions)...and the people are friendly and there is reverence in the meeting place. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand this.. same thing aplies to TV, or movies...some are 4 star and some are dogs. When the Baptist church will have the speaker mention righ from the pulpit to please turn off cell phones and also put it in the bulletin...when the speaker will usually have an interesting bible study with contemporary application ..with depth and intelligence...verses .. the NFDMTTS of most inept SDA preachers... Do some shopping ... The SDA doctrine is closest to the bible compared to others..yet it is ignored in the preaching.. usually just shallow pablum.. Jesus loves you..this I know.... Keep your eyes on Jesus.. He will never leave you.. He forgives you..now show me the money$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Quote

I was trying to get there first, so I could comment that that makes him about 300 years old. But anyway, we all love you JimBob. Guest Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 That's ok.. I have symptoms of 1/2heimer's so I forget things too.. Decade =10 years century= 100 years Sometimes I feel I am 300 years old though Quote

Kimberly Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 No wonder JimBob is angry, he's been alive for over 300 years! Sorry, had to give my 2 cents worth. Jim Bob, if you don't like the cell phones, tell someone to put it in the bulletin or tell the pastor, doesn't that make sense? Also, just don't go there...I don't go to restaurants I don't like and I don't hang around people I dont' like. How about another SDA church? There's one right down the street from me, but they're lifeless...so I drive 15 minutes to go to a better one. Kim Quote

I lead a sabbath school class and my son likes to hear the pastor..He is a nice interesting guy...even though he does NFDMTTS. The people are ok..most probably nicer than me.
