jasd Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 >>The ant was held in high esteem, but not because he stored up food, but because he worked diligently every day. We are not to be lazy.<< Nevertheless, it was “held up as example by Gd.” Otherwise, re the ant and the sluggard – true, true – however, Gd might have utilized another of His creatures as example for the sluggard. Seems that in employing that small insect with ever so limited synaptical processing capabilities compared to our own 1100 cubic centimeters potential – He may have, as wise, simply asked us, “So, what are you doing with your capabilities vis-à-vis the example of the lowly ant?” >>Consider also Matthew 6:25-34.<< There is comfort in those words; however, they, seemingly, emphasized anxiousness v cautionary (or common sense) practice – to wit, the peoples (including His own) whom Jesus Christ addressed practiced harvesting and storage – religiously. Having noted that, it was but a very short 40 years later that saw Jews in the City Jerusalem, for hunger, reduced to eating the flesh of their children, after which – they simply starved to death. Survivors within the City were either immediately killed or sold into slavery. We speak of millions in number. A bit of foresight may have precluded much of their suffering. Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 I live in an area effected by severe weather. For people who live in such areas a 14day stockpile of food is wise. But I believe it is far wiser to stockpile the oil of Mathew 25. Quote
jasd Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 >>But I believe it is far wiser to stockpile the oil of Mathew 25.<< Should Matthew 25 be indeed speaking of the Holy Spirit (but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.), why cannot a person provide for both? Does not Gd give us the wherewithall to perform as befits one having responsibility – both to family and friends? We are to discern the signs... and, ought not the children of the light to be as wise as those of the world? (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attempt to put away 7-years worth of provisions for their families) Of course, not all are wise. Following is a gimme: if the Yellowstone caldera blows – it’ll probably be a coupla two-three years before crops of any significance can be grown in America. In the meantime, y’think America’s ‘friends’ will ship us their food supplies? in any meaningful amounts? (the ash cloud would envelope a very large circumference of the globe and severely affect the world’s climate) Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 The book of Exodus was written for the last days. If God provided food for 40 years, I think he will provide for us also. We need to focus on God. He will see us through any problem. It's all about faith. Quote
Liz Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Amen, nicely said. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Please, support the March of Dimes.

Lineman Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 If I put away 7 years worth of food and someone comes and steals it right away I have done nothing for my family anyway. If food becomes scarce do you think that this might just be a possibility? Seems to me that no matter how much food you store up for yourself, because this is all about faith eventually the time will come when you will be forced to either trust God or turn your back on what He has to offer. fccool Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 The book of Exodus was written for the last days. If God provided food for 40 years, I think he will provide for us also. We need to focus on God. He will see us through any problem. It's all about faith. Hmmm... Joe, I think you should re-visit the Genesis and Noah's story. Noah's story is much more relevant in our end-times case. The story of Exodus has more of a spiritual meaning to us today. God provided Noah with information, but guess who had to build the ark, collect the food for himself and the animals? People thought he was crazy alarmist, there was plenty of food to eat, and no rain in sight. Today, we get much more signs that the times are not going to be so shiny, and yet people are absolutely oblivious. Preparation for the worst is quite consistent with faith, not the other way around. God gives us wisdom to use in the most difficult situations. So, don't test God (saying that he can turn stones into bread, or will throw manna from heaven if you have nothing to eat)... He gave you plenty of warnings and common sense wisdom. Preparation is not alike the parable of the foolish farmer who said that he'll build the larger barns and live happily ever after. It is more like a story of Noah's ark. The storm is coming, and people who are hungry and desperate will be the ones who are more likely to compromise. And with no manna from heaven falling down, will you still have faith in God? Quote

We need to build the communities of people who care about each other's well being. If you are trying to do it on your own, you have every reason to fear. But as a community of people who diligently prepare, you have not only other people to support you, but a chance to help others. No reason to steal, if you offer it to other people as a sign of God's love and wisdom. Quote
