Woody Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 The typical prayer of many is to just come right out and ask for the BMW . Others will ask for the BMW and then add ... "if it be your will". Still others just pray ... "may your will be done in my life". Now here is the loaded question ... Which shows the most 'faith' ? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 Redwood I'd have to say the 3rd choice, "may your will be done in my life". He says seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be given unto you. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 I fear that some try to influence and direct God. "Now give me this God" ... of course ... "may it be your will". But when they go and find a way to buy it ... they actually believe it was God's will ... because "it happened". I think we can be deceived. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 what do you do with ""Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Woody Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 IF ... you delight yourself in the Lord ... your will ... will be His will. You will be in total unison with Him. I guess ... that is all I can do with that text. I dunno. I see it as a goal not a total reality in all aspects of ones life. I can be at times ... but not always. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 thanks  Just wondered how the answer(s) to your question(s) lined up in light of that text. Felyss Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I saw in my experience, that God is answering when I say: "May Your will be done, please open, or close the doors". I can see that a lot of doors look that are open, but when I try to step in, very quickly the doors are closing. Really, our prayer should be, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." "Out of the heart are the issues of life. The inward fountain of life must be cleansed, purified. The will must yield its helm to the command of Christ." Quote

Moderators John317 Posted January 30, 2009 Moderators Posted January 30, 2009 We're guaranteed-- no ifs-- that God will answer prayers for 5 things-- Prayer is heaven's ordained means of success in the conflict with sin and the development of Christian character. The divine influences that come in answer to the prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of the suppliant all for which he pleads. For the pardon of sin, for the Holy Spirit, for a Christlike temper, for wisdom and strength to do His work, for any gift He has promised, we may ask; and the promise is, "Ye shall receive." {AA 564.1} Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Woody Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Hey ... Who is this Felyss? Anyone know? Let us know a little about yourself Felyss. But in the meantime ... WELCOME. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Felyss Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Hi John317, I am totally agree with you. This is the purpose of a prayer. God want that His character will be our character. "David had the true conception of forgiveness when he prayed, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." Ps. 51:10. If you take even one step toward Him in repentance, He will hasten to enfold you in His arms of infinite love. His ear is open to the cry of the contrite soul. The very first reaching out of the heart after God is known to Him. Never a prayer is offered, however faltering, never a tear is shed, however secret, never a sincere desire after God is cherished, however feeble, but the Spirit of God goes forth to meet it. Even before the prayer is uttered or the yearning of the heart made known, grace from Christ goes forth to meet the grace that is working upon the human soul. {FLB 129.3}" "When the prayer is sincerely offered, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me," the voice of the Lord answers, "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them." The renewed heart will have no plants of selfishness to cultivate. Pride will be seen in its sinfulness, and will be expelled. It is not for the human clay to find fault with the molding process of the potter, but to submit to be molded in any way. Every soul must submit to the Lord before he can be made a vessel unto honor, to be filled with the renewing, sanctifying grace of Christ. {RH, May 5, 1896 par. 5}" Quote

Members phkrause Posted January 30, 2009 Members Posted January 30, 2009 what do you do with ""Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4? rudywoofs that's a interesting question. I like to think, at least for me, that the verse in Matthew 6:33 were Jesus says: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. (RSV) kind of says to me that when david says "delight yourself in the Lord" he means when we are one with God that he'll give us all our desires. Just a thought. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Felyss Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Welcome John! We need to do thanks to God, because He put His wisdom in Ellen White. We have such a big light, it is so wonderful to understand His will, even it is so painful for our self. We need do die, and He needs to live in us. Like John the Baptist said: John 3:30 "He must increase, but I must decrease." This is all what He is asking for. Nothing more!!!! His Gospel is very simple, even a child can understand it. God bless you! Quote

Moderators Gerr Posted January 30, 2009 Moderators Posted January 30, 2009 I don't think either one is showing much faith. Quote
