GoLions Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 How does your church hold a successful prayer meeting? That is, how do you get people to attend, and what does your program consist of (order of service, type of Bible study)? Ours is not very well attended yet, but I believe that is going to change. In the last church that I was active in, prayer meeting was passe'. Bible study in the homes was good. We had a potluck and a reading...We got caught up on each other, prayed for one another, worked for one another...held each other up....church was just icing on a cake... GoLions Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Please tell us ... Why do you think that is going to change? What are you doing that would cause the change? Comeon ... spill the beans. Just plan old positive thinking! I started a little thing here that I called prayer bands. Basically I wanted to get people to commit to praying for 7-10 people on their list at least once a week. They need not be a member to be on the prayer list, just willing to pray for each other. Well, I announced it at church, very little response. I but a sign up at the front of church, very little response. But when I went up to people and asked them personally, the response was awesome. We now have 13 prayer bands with up to 10 people in them. An elder is on each list. It has been a few months into it, and people still say they are keeping in touch. I think that if I use the same method, prayer meeting will go well also. I am currently leading out in prayer meeting, I've done it only 2 weeks now, so having 5-8 people is OK with me, as I am just learning how to conduct a meeting that will be profitable for everyone. I believe I will get better at it (at least I hope so). I also believe that as times get harder, people will want to have prayer for them and will turn their hearts to him. Prayer meeting is a good place for that. Quote
