Not the longest in miles, but in time some years ago I set out from Karachi Pakistan with an 8 month old baby and a 2 year old girl to fly to Melbourne, leaving the other half behind, and arrived 29 hours later including a layover at Singapore. I was glad when that trip was finished. Another trip I was driving from Bendigo Victoria to Sydney New South Wales, by myself, and decided to do a little sight seeing along the way, turning the 9 hour trip into 1100 km and about 14 hours. I am sure others have done much longer trips than this, but these come to my mind. Of course current day events pale beside what our pioneers did, often travelling into the unknown. Quote

Members phkrause Posted February 9, 2009 Members Posted February 9, 2009 A number of years ago, about 35 to be exact, drove from Daytona, FL to the Bronx, NY a 1100-1200 mile drive in around 21 hours. Than another 180 miles the next day to get home. Have also driven from NY to Newbury Park, CA in 3 days, around 3000 miles. Moderators Bravus Posted February 10, 2009 Moderators Posted February 10, 2009 I travelled from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa once, and to Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa, 6 times, in a period of just over 2 days. There were various routes, but the one that took the longest was Edmonton -> Toronto (about 7 hours), Toronto -> London (or in one case Munich and one case Paris) (about 10 hours), London -> Johannesburg (about 12 hours), Jo'burg -> Bloemfontein (an hour and a half). Stay in Bloem for a week and half or two weeks, then do it all in reverse. Stay home for 3 months and then repeat. It was usually the stop-overs and waiting in airports that really knocked me around, rather than the actual flights - I got pretty good at just riding out the flights. The one exception is that we used to get a few hour stopover in London, and we'd get a day room at the Airport Hilton (the Canadian government was paying), and get to have a shower and a couple of hours sleep in a real bed. Neil D Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 By air, there was the trip from Busan, South Korea to Seoul to Japan to LA to SF, in about 14 hours, as I recall....of course that was many years ago... Recently, [if you call 2 years ago 'recent'] went from SF to New Zealand in about 18 hours.... By car, I went from Boise Idaho to Portland and then there was the time I went from LA to Wells Nevada in about 14 hours. And I still had 6 hours to wait before boarding the dive boat to go out 150 miles into the Coral Sea. After boarding and crew briefing I had been up for at least 36 hours. I collapsed on my bunk and slept like a baby for the overnight passage on rough seas. My first overseas trip as a student missionary was almost as bad. NY to London, (overnight in London), London to Stockholm, Stockholm to Bangkok, Bangkok to Singapore. One week waiting for visa clearance in Singapore and then to our final destination of Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi in East Indonesia. Of more recent vintage the worst was going from here to India and back in less than 4 calendar days, leaving Washington, DC (Dulles) Monday evening via London for meetings in New Delhi on Wednesday morning and that afternoon flying to Bangalore for meetings Thursday morning, and Thursday afternoon flying back to New Delhi for overnight flight to London and home by Friday afternoon. Windy way.. took 7 days averaging about 1000 kilometers ( 600 miles) per day. Visit 15 Churches on the way. Is it less miles to the Southern tip of Mexico from where I live (So I was told). Dottie Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I have flown from Orlando to LA to Boise. I have driven, alone, from Edmonton, Alberta, to Norfolk, Virginia, in a U-Haul by myself. My son got married in Lacombe, and he and his new wife flew to Norfolk. He had to be back to work and didn't have enough time off to drive their things to Norfolk. That was 11 1/2 years ago. Every year or so I drive from Orlando, to South Jersey and back again, with only my son in the car. Quote

I have done the drive from here in Maryland to Florida numerous times, both with family and by myself. The drive to Ft. Myers area is about 1100 miles and usually takes 18 hours or so, although I have done it in 16.5 hours by myself a couple times. We are less inclined these days to do it in one day.
