fccool Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 An old Italian guy lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament: Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Pop, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Pop, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you, Vinnie Quote

Dottie Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 In a township near where I lived as a child, someone was plowing their field and hit some metal. Upon further inspection, it was found to be the roof of a car. Authorities were called in, and a car was dug up. In it were found the dead bodies of the owner and his assistants, former gang members. (I grew up in South Jersey.) Quote

Members phkrause Posted February 11, 2009 Members Posted February 11, 2009 There were quite a number of Mafia families at that time. All taking each other out. Did they ever figure out who they were. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Dottie Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I had a cousin who married an Italian man. The word in our family was that he was a gofer for the Mob. My 14-year-old son asked him if it was true one day at a family gathering. The man laughed as everyone else sat there with their mouths open in astonishment. Quote
Members phkrause Posted February 14, 2009 Members Posted February 14, 2009 I lived in a pretty interesting area in the Bronx growing up. About 3-4 blocks to the west where we first moved to from manhattan was a jewish neighborhood, one street to the west of that was an Italian neighborhood where Dion of Dion and the Belmonts lived. By the way Belmont was the name of the street they lived on, therefore the name Belmonts. When we moved over 3-4 blocks east of there, we lived in a pretty mixed neighborhood, jews, italians, hispanics, blacks, etc., a street or 2 over, east of my street, started an italian neighborhood, and farther east was a black neighborhood. Anyway I had a italian friend that lived down the street from me. We went to the same HS to together. He had relatives that worked for the sanitation department, mafia controlled. In eleventh grade at this HS I was getting into alot of troubled, so one day he asked me if I wanted to quit school with him and work for the sanitation department. Imagine I would have been right in the thick of the mafia if I had of said yes. I didn't want to owe anybody, never sure what would have been asked of me for a favor. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
