We have had a shocking heat wave over here... Also, some people have purposely lit fires around the Sydney area in builtup areas... More than 1000 people are dead, and still others are missing... We in California know something of what that's like. But we've never experienced the deaths from them that you have there. It's just so tragic. I'll pray for those all poor people there. Moderators Nan Posted February 12, 2009 Moderators Posted February 12, 2009 Sydney has not had major fires so far this season, the worst ones have been in Victoria, mostly to the north and east of Melbourne. Of course we pray that we will continue to be spared. The current death toll is 181 officially but there are still areas to be searched. I heard one of the officials say sometimes it was difficult to tell actually how many bodies were together, identification will be very slow. The toll in homes is about as Stan says. And still there a lunatics being caught lighting new ones. The weather at the moment is cool with some rain, but more hot weather is predicted for next week, so the firefighters are working to try to stabilise things before that happens. Some specialists from the US have come to help. Quote
