GreatLakesGramma Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Cosmin, if you are doing questionable things, the sincere seeker is going to reject you as a source of spiritual truths before you ever get the chance to introduce them to Jesus. And if they have not formed any close relationships with other church members by the time they make this disturbing discovery, no one else from the Adventist church is going to get the chance to do it either. They will probably meet Him through a born-again Baptist or Pentecostal, or some other Christian. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Moderators Gerr Posted February 21, 2009 Moderators Posted February 21, 2009 I've been to a number of meetings where the choices of drinks are limited to alcohol-containing beverages or soda pop with caffeine, and non-alcoholic beer. Although I don't particularly care for the taste of beer (reminds me of urine taste), I'd rather take it (non-alcoholic beer) than most soda pop. Quote

But being raised an Adventist didn't give me the Bible knowledge I needed, and didn't teach me about who Jesus really is. Moderators John317 Posted February 21, 2009 Moderators Posted February 21, 2009 You'd love a Bible called the International Inductive Study Bible, which helps you study on your own. It's the New American Standard Version. It contains lots of empty space for notes, plus really wide margins. One of the best study Bibles. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members phkrause Posted February 21, 2009 Members Posted February 21, 2009 John this sounds interesting. What other helps does this have with it? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I don't agree with you, Redwood. When someone comes into the church and wants to know and do God's will, they may not know how to study the Bible and find out for themselves. They are just baby Christians. They will look at church members to learn how it's done. And if they see church members regularly doing things that they were told, when studying with the pastor before baptism, that Christians should not do, it can be very confusing. That might be true. But then ... the first thing they should learn is to look to Christ and not humans. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

I carry my water bottle with me at all times anyway, because I have an autoimmunity that suppresses production of saliva, so I'm always thirsty. GreatLakesGramma Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 So, if in a given situation, the social thing to do was to mock Christianity, they would do that too? One good thing about being a social reject as a child, at some point I quit caring about fitting in. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Cosmin M. Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 Well I am one weird kind of kid. Why? Well in my life I never really was the tough guy and most of my friends and best friends were girls. Try fitting in now? ...and no, I will not wear skirts! Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Cosmin, there's nothing wrong with having most of your friends of the opposite gender, though you may run into a bit of trouble eventually. One of my sons (not the one I wrote about in the other thread) is a very kind and considerate young man, as well as good looking. Most of his friends are female. To him, they are just friends, and he has no interest in being romantically involved with any of them. But because he is so kind and considerate, and really cares about people's feelings, each of them has, at some point, fallen in love with him, and told him so. This has been very difficult for him to have to deal with, as he didn't want to hurt their feelings, or destroy his friendships with them. aldona Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Quote: Beer tastes nasty. So if you aren't going to drink it for the intoxication, why would you want to drink it at all? I have never touched alcohol in my life. But I do sometimes drink non-alcoholic "beer" (which is labelled as "brewed soft drink" here). In fact, I was first introduced to it at an Adventist social gathering. It tastes bitter but I quite like it - on a hot day it is very refreshing. GreatLakesGramma Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Nope. Just wondering why anyone would want to drink it at all, if it tastes as bad as real beer. Maybe it doesn't. I wouldn't know. GreatLakesGramma Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 For refreshment on a hot day, in my opinion, nothing beats plain, cool water.
