Hello all,

I had a very lovely Sabbath yesterday.

I went to a youth rally here in Adelaide... which means that all Adventists Youths all over this fantastic state came together to praise God, and there was thousands of youth and young people and young adults that attended, the building was packed out--it was incredible.

We do serve a awesome God, don't we???

Well, I can't wait until I finally become a member of the Queenstown sda Church, because I know that is where God wants me to be.

Luke, are your parents still as opposed as they were? Or have they let up a little?

I am thankful my parents were not at all opposed to my becoming Adventist, when I was 21. I was in college and still dependent on them, and might have been afraid to go ahead with it if they had been hostile. But my dad's best friend in the Air Force was raised Adventist, and spent his life after the service in denominational employment. He and his wife sent my parents "These Times" magazine for years. Also, the mother of the family that lived across the road from my mother's family when she was a child was Adventist, and she was a very sweet lady. So they knew Adventists and considered them good Christians. And they were thankful I was going to church again, even if it wasn't the denomination I grew up in.

My mother is still very much opposed along with my stepdad, and they are beginning to irritate me a lot.

My dad is happy that I am going to Church--regardless what denomination or day they meet on.

My whole family is ok with it all.

Its just my mother ----- I'm praying for a miracle.

Do you live with your mother and stepfather? Whether you do or not, you need to be tolerant and not allow yourself to get irritated. And you need to treat them with respect regardless of how much they oppose your doing the right thing. That will go a long way toward eventually changing their attitude. In fact, they may be unconsciously testing to see whether your new found faith is really making a difference in you. It's good to pray for a miracle, but you must also pray that you will not work against it.

Remember, a soft answer turns away wrath. And when you fail, always apologize, and never, ever shift the blame. If you say, "I'm sorry but I wouldn't have done it if you hadn't...." you are not apologizing. If there is something related to the incident that you need to confront someone about, I believe it is best not to bring that up at the same time as the apology. In fact, in my own experience, it has seldom been necessary to bring it up later either. The person apologized to may begin to be convicted of their own part and apologize without you saying a thing about their fault.

It is also not necessary to apologize to the point of demeaning yourself. Or to allow the other person to demean you when you apologize. You do not need to answer unreasonable accusations made in the face of your apology. If they are reasonable, by all means, apologize for those too. But if not, it's probably better to say nothing at all than to allow yourself to be pulled into a trap. Feeling that you have to have the last word is not from God. Follow Jesus' example. When He knew minds were closed, they could not goad Him into answering so much as a single word.

Maybe none of this is relevant to your situation. But I just wanted to share with you some of what I've learned, in case it might be helpful.

Good post and advice, GreatLakesG.

I'm very happy for you, Luke, and I'm praying for you and for your family, too.

Keep your eyes focussed on God and Christ. God bless!
