Dr. Shane Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 "Financial Peace" by Dave Ramsey is a great book. I just finished the last chapter. I have been reading it for a few weeks and found it quite enjoyable. I got a lot of good pointers about how to live debt free. I was doing some things right already but this book really made me a lot sharper in regard to my personal finances. I think it has helped my marriage too. I definitely recommend this book as a "must read". Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Dr. Shane Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Everything he teaches is just common sense and it is easy to put into practice. I put off looking into it for a long time because I thought it was going to be complicated. I tried managing my income once with Microsoft Money and it was a complete failure. Dave Ramsey's system is so easy. He says he didn't event it but "you grandmother did". It is a real basic way of running a household income and the way most families did it before the credit card was invented. In one of his classes he shows an old antique financial planner he got that has a 1948 calender in it. It is basically the same thing he is teaching today. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Nan Posted February 25, 2009 Moderators Posted February 25, 2009 Well if it has a 1948 calendar it must be good, only the best things and people originated from that year :) Quote
Members phkrause Posted February 25, 2009 Members Posted February 25, 2009 Good one Nan. Dr. Shane Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Dave Ramsey loves this passage: My child, if you co-sign a loan for a friend or guarantee the debt of someone you hardly know, if you have trapped yourself by your agreement and are caught by what you said, quick, get out of it if you possibly can! You have placed yourself at your friend's mercy. Now swallow your pride; go and beg to have your name erased. Don't put it off. Do it now! Don't rest until you do. Save yourself like a deer escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net. (Prob. 6:1-5) In his seminar he shows a video of a leopard chasing an antelope to demonstrate how determined we should be to get out of debt. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
