cordelil Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hello! I am thinking of attending one of your church services. I am 61 and haven't been to a church in years. While I was married I became a Roman Catholic and after the divorce I stopped attending. I am not as pure as the driven snow. I drink coffee and eat meat. I have studied Christian theology over the years so I have some head smarts but am lacking the heart ones. Can I just visit an Adventist Church without calling first? I am not too familiar with your protocol. Since I am divorced is that a big deal or what? Also, are my dietary habits a hindrance? If someone could address my concerns I would appreciate it. You're very welcome to visit any SDA church without making any changes in any of the things you've mentioned. You wouldn't need to call ahead first. Neither diet nor being divorced are a hindrance to visiting and worshipping with Seventh-day Adventists. About half of the church are vegetarian and the other half eats what the Bible refers to as "clean" meat. Sometimes people visit a few different ones in the area, if they have more than one. Each church has its own unique character. You may be familiar with the one that sits just off Highway 101 and Hollywood Blvd. I live about 60 miles east of you, so I know the area you're talking about pretty well. cordelil Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Hello! I went to church yesterday. Now, my background in religion is limited to being a Catholic for 12 years when I was married. That was many years ago. So, the theology was different. I do enjoy the study of religion and have exposed myself to Christian apologetics in general and to Catholic in particular. What I liked was it was a small, warm, personal gathering. That suits my style more than the large, impersonal nature of Catholic Churches in large cities like I live in. At 61 and very much alone I plan on returning to the Hawthorne SDA. I have no complaints or critcisms. I enjoyed the bible study with the pastor before the Sabbath Service. As I said the theology was quite a bit different than what I have been exposed to and have plenty to learn. Thanks for the prayers and support. John Quote

This is one of my favorite parts of worship. I just hope that the other church goers were good to you. Take care and have a great week. And like others have said don't be a stranger.
