Key Guy Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (I don't think this goes into the 'Humor' topic because of the broad spectrum of wisdom that we'll discover) I have an idea! If you are like we are, you eat your share of Chinese food. And whether you like the taste/texture of fortune cookies or not, it seems that we all like the fortunes inside. So, in the spirit of education, cuteness and giggles, I propose we start sharing the fortune messages we find in our cookies. It so happens that we had veggie sushi tonight for supper and I have 2 fortunes to share. Hopefully, we'll get a pretty large response and keep our Oriental friends in business, as well. Moderators Gerr Posted February 28, 2009 Moderators Posted February 28, 2009 A number of years ago, they came out with "adult" fortune cookie messages. This is what one said: Tonight is a night for romance. Tell your wife you're working late. Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Did you know that fortune cookies aren't really Chinese? They are actually an American invention. They were first baked by immigrants who based the recipe on a traditional Japanese cracker. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Key Guy Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Gramma, From from cookies to Harriers..... you rock! Thanks for your knowledge Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Thanks KG. But in fact, I just check out anything that sounds suspicious right away. Thus the info on the Harrier. Wikipedia is the one with the knowledge. The fortune cookie story was in the Reader's Digest a couple of years ago, and I refreshed my memory at Wikipedia before posting here. I suppose I should post the reference too, but that takes extra time, I didn't think about it. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Is nothing sacred anymore. This must be a sign of the end. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Key Guy Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Ok, now that we have the origin of the fortune cookie down, let's hear those 'fortunes'! Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 No, they're not Chinese at all. The inspiration, fortune and all, is Japanese. But they were marketed to Chinese restaurants, so they are thought of as Chinese. Fortune Cookies Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
