Stan Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Chavez's Stepchildren Killed In March Crash DENVER -- A man who attacked a driver following a crash that killed his two stepchildren was sentenced Friday to three years in prison. Phillip Chavez pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter in November. He had faced a charge of second-degree murder. Chavez attacked and killed the driver of a sport utility vehicle that rear-ended his car on Interstate 25 in Northglenn last March. Police say that driver, 62-year-old Glenn Ryburn, was drunk. Fourteen-year-old Damien Noyes, and his 13-year-old sister, Angel, were killed instantly. The family was returning home from a Nuggets game. The teens were sitting in the back seat of the Ford Escort, which was crushed by Ryburn's Chevrolet Blazer. Chavez attacked Ryburn while he was still buckled in his car, clobbering him repeatedly, according to police at the scene. One witness said that Chavez hit Ryburn approximately 150 times, prosecutors said. Stan Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 If a drunk driver killed my kids, I would be hard pressed not to do what he did. Right or wrong, it would be tough to control myself.. Robert Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 If a drunk driver killed my kids, I would be hard pressed not to do what he did.Right or wrong, it would be tough to control myself.. Right...I understand! Here's the thing (and yes I'm on a soapbox)...big business (in this case the Breweries) lobbyed Washington many years ago and have since had their way. It doesn't matter if it kills over 300,000 folks a year due to DUI...folks must have their suds. Rob Quote
Woody Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 HEY ALL YES that is a hard question to answer as to what a person would do in that case......I AM sure there would be anger---- hate----but what about GODS LOVE for that drunk man???? I DON'T have the answer just thinking dgrimm60 In the heat of the moment ... I don't think the father was thinking about God's Love for a drunk man. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Woody Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 It depends upon which man you are referring to. The drunk was certainly wanting mercy. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

GreatLakesGramma Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 3 folks can die because of Peanut Butter and it is a targedy, 300,000 people can did because of DUI, millions of families are broken up, jails are full, and overful. When was common sense last seen? It depends on who has the money. In this case, the breweries. It works the same with herbal remedies. 100,000 people die each year from correctly using prescription drugs, and they do nothing. A handful of people die from abusing herbal remedies, and they ban the herb. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. GreatLakesGramma Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I agree about the lack of common sense too. That is exactly my point. Common sense no longer rules the day in our society. Money does. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Robert Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 it kills over 300,000 folks a year due to DUI.. Sorry, wrong number. Here's the 2007 number from MADD: "In 2007, 12,998 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes. These alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities accounted for 32 percent of the total motor vehicle traffic fatalities in the United States." Quote
Dottie Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 There is lobbying money from breweries, but I believe the greatest motivator is the taxes that the government gets from the sale of alcohol, and also of cigarettes. Even though cigarettes have been banned in different places, and there are warnings, and the taxes have been increased, one still hears about how the taxes help children. It all seems like a big falsified circle!!! Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I just read yesterday that some states are considering taxing pornography. Some opponents say that this legitimizes it, and of course the porn industry says it is a violation of freedom of expression to tax based on content.
