“As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh….”

I don’t know about the rest of you, but where I work we have a sick policy that smacks of what Paul was writing of in Galatians 6:12 (see subject).

Here’s the policy: You have up to 3 occurrences. The total time off can’t be more than 40 hours. If you go over this amount you get a warning, etc., etc. Anyway, what I find to be “a good showing in the flesh” is their “award program.” If you didn’t get sick for the whole year you get a free T-shirt that states the same; a $50 gift certificate and a plaque.

Now here’s the kicker. Folks get sick all the time, but instead of getting paid for sick leave (which is typically $200/day) they come into work sick so that they can glory in the fact that they didn’t get sick. They get their T-shirts; gift certificates, and plaques stating the total years they haven’t been sick and then are publicly praised by their peers and managers.

The end-result? Instead of looking bad they come in sick (and get everyone else sick) or they take a personal vacation day and at the end of the year they get a star in their crown. What hypocrites! What do you guys think of this policy?

but like any man make reward there are loop holes

Last year I wasn't sick so I didn't take any sick days off. When I got my T-shirt (my glory shirt) I gave it away. Sometimes I give it to someone that was sick and used sick days. I think that's funny.

Businesses are learning how to manipulate folks by studying human nature. Sad....

I JUST think that companies are trying to come up

with ideas to help production..

Doesn't matter...it's wrong! They know folks will take vacations days instead of sick days. Their policy is very vague.

Now that's for hourly folks, but when it comes to "white collar", oh, that's different - but that's another subject called "class division".

A T-shirt would not impress me.

My husband does not get paid sick days, or personal days. He gets paid for the hours he works, period. Talk about incentive! He seldom gets sick though, and when he does, if he's really sick, he stays home in bed, and gets well quickly. Only once has he ever taken 2 days to recover.

He doesn't get paid vacation either. They get a vacation pay percentage added to their regular paycheck, so that those who work more hours get more, and it is up to the employee to save his own money to cover vacation time. They get laid off some every year though, so my husband doesn't bother to take vacations too. He just spends his lay-off time working on the house or his projects, or whatever, and gets Unemployment.
