Lineman Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 When I was a kid Paul was living just about 40 miles north of us in California. I have enjoyed his radio news programs for a long, long time. Liz Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I really enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey news. I am sure he missed his wife a lot. GoLions Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Someone once told me that he was a "fan" of Ellen White" and that he used her for one of his 'rest of the story' segments. I can neither verify or deny this however. I think he also said something about keeping the Sabbath, but couldn't because of his job. Once again it was hear-say. I did enjoy his commentary's every now and then, but other times I just wished he would get to the end of the story a little quicker. R.I.P. Paul Harvey, I hope you lived up to the light you've been given. I hope to see you in heaven. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Paul Harvey said that the US Post Office should make a postage stamp with Ellen White on it because she is such a distinguished American. Of course, in his usual way, he listed all her accomplishments and left the audience hanging about who he was talking about. When he named her, he then said, if you don't know who Ellen White is,,,, well,,,, maybe you should. He attended an Adventist church when he wintered in Arizona but was never baptized. A letter from the pastor of that church was published here on C/A some years ago. It may still be in the archives. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... GreatLakesGramma Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Shane, I just read a day or two ago that Mr. Harvey was baptized about a year ago. Neil D Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I remember being forced to listen to him on the high school bus as I was going to high school...I got to where I appreciated his commentary.....I loved the "for what it's worth department"...and his signiture line at the end of his news.... GreatLakesGramma Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Shane, I don't think it's just a rumor. Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted March 1, 2009 Moderators Posted March 1, 2009 My sister lives in Scottsdale, and when I visit her we both attend the Camelback church. The pastor there, Charles White, used to be pastor in Northern California and he baptized my granddaughters there. He told us that Paul Harvey had given the money to the Camelback church [anonymously] to upgrade their sound system. [This was several years ago.] And when he was in town he attended church there. Of course this news is at least five years old. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Members phkrause Posted March 1, 2009 Members Posted March 1, 2009 I actually don't ever recall having heard him on the radio or where ever. But from many didn't people have heard nothing but good things. Also had heard that his wife was an adventist. That he read most if not all of EGWs books and brought her up on his radio broadcasts. And I had heard that he attended the SDA church with his wife, and was baptized within the last year or so. Even if he wasn't it seems that he was a christian none the less. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Neil D Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Quote: Paul Harvey is a convert to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was baptized into the church around the year 2000. Harvey regularly attends the Camelback Adventist Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. From: Mark A. Kellner, "Adventist Communicators Conference: 'Communicating Christ'", on ANN/Adventist News Network website, 16 October 2001 (http://news.adventist.org/data/2001/09/1003237231/index.html.en; viewed 15 July 2005): Radio legend Paul Harvey, who has often quoted Adventist pioneer Ellen G. White in his broadcasts and who attends the Camelback Adventist Church in Arizona during his winters there, received the "Golden Microphone" Award for his professionalism and graciousness in dealing with the church. Quote: And ... that's the end of the story. Rather, I think it was said thus- And NOW you know.......................the REST OF THE STORY. Dr. Shane Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I feel quite sure that website is incorrect. First, it also says that Jaci Velazquez is an Adventist. She is not. She is a Baptist. Her father is a Baptist pastor. Secondly, the letter posted here at C/A some years ago from the Adventist pastor in Arizona was written after the year 2000. In that letter the Adventist pastor said Paul Harvey attended his church in the winter but was not an Adventist member. Of course I don't want to insinuate that he is not saved if he is not an Adventist or that he is saved if he is an Adventist. My only point was that if Paul Harvey died a saved man, it is not the end but the best is yet to come. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Sigh. Just goes to show, one more time, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted March 1, 2009 Members Posted March 1, 2009 I'm going to miss Paul Harvey's commentary, and the man behind the mike himself. He was such a gracious person to everyone that I know of that he met. What a loss to the world of communications. He was not a baptized SDA, but somehow, I don't think that matters to God....as Catherine wrote, Quote: God knows his heart, and that is all that really matters. R.I.P.
