News | DeKalb County News | Jackson County News Courtesy AMA Search teams fear the worst for Robert Norton, who apparently crashed a long way from his home in Bryant, Alabama. Norton is a volunteer pilot for Adventist Medical Aviation. He makes medical runs for people who don't have ready access to doctors and hospitals. That's what he was doing on February 16th, when his flight failed to reach it's final destination. On board with him were his wife, Neiba Norton, an Adventist teacher, two sick children and their mothers. Now, almost two weeks later, there is still no sign of what happened to the flight. The Venezuelan government searched for 72 hours, but then gave up. There are no civil organizations to handle plane searches there, like there are in the United States. So now the Adventist Church is continuing the hunt with whatever volunteers they can find. It's tough terrain in the jungles of La Gran Sabana in southeastern Venezuela. But volunteers hope they can get satellite images back in the U-S that might help them spot the wreckage. Robert Norton has been flying for AMA now for eight years. He is also the director. He ferries villagers out to hospitals, and brings medicine and missionaries back to them. Norton is based at the La Gran Sabana Adventist School on the border of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. His wife is a nurse who works in the neighboring villages. You can read more on the Nortons and the search in the Adventist News. Lineman Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I find it interesting that his wife was both a teacher and a nurse. My brother-in-law went looking for a plane that had crashed in South America several years ago. He too went missing for a very long time due to complications, but found his way out of the jungle.
