Outta Here Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I regret ever calling to attention the fact that the girl (or young woman) has earrings. It was not my intention that the banner should be re-made; nor was it my intention to start controversy about jewelry. It was merely a comment about my opinion that she seemed too young to have earrings. I have always been a supporter of the idea that piercings and other permanent alterations to the body (i.e., tattoos, self-inflicted scarring, and plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons) be something no child under the age of 18 (or whatever age constitues legal age as determined by home country) should be permitted to do. As was pointed out to me in the other thread, this girl is 24; to me, this is a perfectly acceptable photo to have for this website. All people should be welcome in the house of the Lord. Had I thought for a moment, I would have realized she must be over 18--else using her photo online without her parent's permission might be legally questionable. I am truly sorry for causing you so much trouble over this, Cosmin. Quote

SivartM Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 As was pointed out to me in the other thread, this girl is 24; Proven by counting the hairs on the right side of her head. Which is not visible in the photo. And a very unscientific method of age determination. Just so you know. Woody Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I would also like to point out that the guy on the right is wearing a watch. Is wearing a watch also jewelry? Maybe that should be photoshopped out of there also. We would not want to cause any one to stumble. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Aubrey, don't worry about it. There has been no controversy about earrings here. We are all just kidding around. We do that. A lot. Administrators Gail Posted March 6, 2009 Administrators Posted March 6, 2009 And in some parts rings are for pigs! To keep them from rooting! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Can someone here please tell me what 'rooting' means? And I am not going to ha ha ha ho ho ho on this one. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I thought someone else already did. Pigs dig in the ground with their noses. This is called rooting. Maybe it's called that because their purpose in doing it is to dig up roots to eat. I know that do they. In France, they use pigs to find and dig up truffles. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Dgrimm, bulls have rings in their noses for an entirely different reason. Being such dangerous animals, the ring is for he purpose of controlling them. The farmer can then use a long pole with a hook on the end to grab the bull by the ring in its nose. Then they can lead it where they want to take it. The bull will not fight it because that is painful. Of course, if a bull were in a really ugly mood, I doubt that it would let a little pain stop it. I have never seen this done, but I have read about it. We only had a bull at our dairy farm once, for a few years. I don't think he had a ring in his nose. I never saw my dad use a pole to lead him. But maybe I'm just not remembering. It was a long time ago. Maybe I'll ask him. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Members phkrause Posted March 7, 2009 Members Posted March 7, 2009 Isn't "rooting" Redwood also when you are rooting for your favorite team, or for a particular person, etc? Or is this rooting spelled differently? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
