GreatLakesGramma Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Yesterday morning I got a phone call from my daughter. She was very upset, calling on her cell phone while driving, and talked to me all the way home, and then some more, sitting in her car. The previous Friday, she called asking for my advice on how she should go about quitting her job. The situation has been bad for a long time, and getting worse exponentially. She has had too many paychecks she couldn't cash because the money was not in the account, and that is not the worst of it. Possibly the worst is that the general manager is a real horse's patootie, and has added a TON of stress on top of everything else. She had given notice, but said horse's patootie wanted her to agree to stay a month, or until they found a replacement, and made a bunch of promises, which he said he would put in writing, if she would do this, including not contesting her unemployment claim and giving her a good reference for another job. She wasn't sure she could take the stress, but we discussed it, and she decided to stay. Yesterday, the general manager blew up at her and accused her of trying to get out of their agreement, because of something she had said. She had not said what he accused her of and she told him so, so he really started screaming, told her she was fired, ordered her off the premises immediately, and not to ever come back. This guy is NOT the owner of the business, he is just an employee. And he is not daughter's boss. He actually had no jurisdiction over her. She works directly under the owner of the business. Unfortunately, said owner is too much of a wimp to stand up to this evil man. He has done much the same thing to everyone who has left there, and owner didn't even stand up to him when he did the same to owner's own nephew. He actually did try to stand up for daughter, being in the office while all this was going on, but not enough to make any difference. Daughter didn't leave fast enough for Horse's Patootie, so he called the police to have her arrested for trespassing. The policeman, after talking to her outside, then going back in to talk to the men, came out & apologized to her, said he didn't want to deal with THAT MAN again, and advised her not to go back there ever again, as HP would have her arrested for trespassing if she did. Daughter was calmed down finally. I told her to keep telling herself that is is now FREE. But her chances of a good reference and an uncontested Unemployment claim are next to nothing now. She needs to find a new job quickly, and to be able to get Unemployment right away. Gail, this is Kitty B I'm talking about. I don't know if anyone else remembers her, but I know you always do. She is in a tough spot now, and needs all the prayers she can get. This is not the only difficulty she is going through in her life right now either. Just the worst one. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Cosmin M. Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Will pray for her. Stupid Horse Pattotie.... Also, this is the wrong section. (Just letting you know) Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted March 8, 2009 Members Posted March 8, 2009 Kitty's situation sounds like deja vu in my situation... I will keep her in my prayers. Liz Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Praying that she finds a much better job, and she can close this horrible chapter of her life. True-believer Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I'm praying... Remember there is POWER, POWER, WONDER-WORKING POWER in the precious BLOOD of the LAMB which is JESUS CHRIST our RIGHTEOUSNESS and our STRENGTH forever and forever, AMEN... GreatLakesGramma Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 DGrimm, if someone is fired for misconduct, they don't get unemployment. HP is certainly going to claim that. So she would have to fight for it, and it could take a month or more to get that settled. Then it would depend on who they believed, whether she got it or not. Yes, of course I remember her and several times when I read your posts I think of her and have been meaning to ask you how she has been doing. I am so sorry that she has had to face this persecution! How horrible and stressful for her! I am happy that you have shared this burden with us, Catherine. I will certainly be praying for her! Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2009 Administrators Posted March 8, 2009 Catherine, is there someone she can report this situation to? Here we have what is called a Labour Relations Board. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 Gail, each state has its own setup. In Michigan, it used to be called the Michigan Employment Security Commission. You went there for Unemployment, to search for jobs with the government and private companies who posted with them, and for complaints against an employer. They don't have that any more. You have to file an Unemployment claim online, and I have no idea where you'd to go for a complaint. Kitty B lives in another state now, and I don't know how it's set up there. I have told her she should talk to the people at the Unemployment office and tell them all about it. If they don't handle that, they could at least tell her where to go. But going that route would take a fight too, which won't be of any help meeting her needs right now. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2009 Administrators Posted March 8, 2009 If she has a problem getting unemployment she could possibly file an appeal. I did that once when denied unemployment and won. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 Gail, she definitely plans to do that. But again, it would take time for that to go through, leaving her with no income in the meantime. I know that God will provide for her in one way or another, but she definitely does need His intervention. She also needs a lot of strength. She is a strong young woman, but her strength has been tested almost to the breaking point already. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2009 Administrators Posted March 8, 2009 I wish that she could come back to visit us... Please tell her that I was thinking of her! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
GreatLakesGramma Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 I talked to KittyB again tonight. And Gail, I did remember to tell her "hi" from you. I was very surprised at what she told me. I called to talk to the granddaughters, but first asked KB whether she had applied for unemployment yet. You will never believe this - she is back at work again, at the same job! The owner hired a replacement, and asked KB to come back for 2 weeks and train her. He promised to keep HP away from her, that the new woman would be the go-between for anything that had to pass between KB and HP, and to make everything right with Unemployment, etc. So KB went back on Monday and began training the new office manager. First thing in the morning, new OM has a run-in with HP, because he had already violated the "stay away from KB" rule. The rest of the day, as KB showed new OM around, new OM asked questions about this and that, and KB told her the truth. At the end of the day, new OM quit. Wise woman that she is, she realized that what had been done to others would probably also be done to her if she took this job. Now KB is there, having committed to staying until March 28, but with no current prospects of finding a replacement by then. And she can't really trust owner to be effective at keeping HP away from her, seeing as how owner has no backbone. At least the policeman has HP's number. Owner told KB everything that happened inside while she waited outside. But KB is still in the lions' den, so prayers are still needed and appreciated.
