Neil D Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Neil thinks back 10 years ago when he worked in NICU and remembers that nearly all the kids were whites and not of hispanic origin......And wonders what Mr. I is trying to get at..... there buster Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Quote: Really???? Gee, I wonder what really caused this economic down turn then....... It's clear you do not know. Quote “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell
Neil D Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 oh, but I do know....it was the LACK of regulation that caused banks to sell morgages to people who couldn't afford overpriced houses,[and they defaulted on them] which caused banks to panic and lock up the credit. Then Bush GAVE several hundred BILLION dollars to those banks and it's insurerer..."to prop up the financial industry"...Or something very similar to that...According to Shane, Bush tried to get the industry regulated, but after one feeble attempt, he was talked out of it....And he didn't get out of office fast enough before the banks started collapsing... there buster Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Quote: the LACK of regulation that caused banks to sell morgages Sorry. Wrong again. It was the refusal to regulate Fannie Mae by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. No Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, no housing bubble. Neil D Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Tell that to AIG...whose company guarenteed many a worthless loan and who needed billions to prop up the company...otherwise a domino effect would have occured and many banks would have gone under, causing a run on the banks, and credit to dry up....interesting thing, about current availability of credit....it seems to have dried up.... now, I prefer to stay on topic...and this topic is about health care...not the economy.. there buster Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are the ones the engaged in the worst loans, and they were the ones who 'securitized' the bad loans, mixing them with good ones. The resulting securities had high yields, which AIG and others who invest funds to cover losses bought. Without Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, no housing bubble. No housing bubble, no recession (right now). Quote “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell

The idea was concocted by the president of Kazakhstan (could he be Borat's second cousin? Who knows) Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
