Administrators Gail Posted March 8, 2009 Administrators Posted March 8, 2009 I have been wished this twice already, once from a Vietnamese pal and once from a Turkish friend. I told them, we don't celebrate this in Canada that I know of, but I think it's a GREAT idea! So- to all of you women out there- have a GREAT day and I celebrate the US of womanhood! Internationally!! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Amelia Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 And what a wonderful group we are! Members phkrause Posted March 9, 2009 Members Posted March 9, 2009 I think that these so called "days" which seem to emphasize just one particular day sometimes do more damage than good. At our house we try to make everyday a day to remember each person. Doesn't always work but its better than waiting for the actual day. But of course on that day we make a bigger deal of the day. Just my thoughts! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

carolaa Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I'd never heard of it before this year, either. Following is a small part of what Wikipedia has to say about it. Apparently, it is mostly observed in the developing world. "The day is an official holiday in Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, China, Cuba, Croatia, Laos, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Zambia, and is observed by men giving the women in their lives - mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc., flowers and small gifts. In some countries (such as Romania or Poland) it is also observed as an equivalent of Mother's Day, where children also give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers." Incidentally, there IS an international men's day; just google it. Quote
