Woody Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 On F _ _ today I heard that some churches are paying people to attend church by offering them a gas card to come. I think they are limiting it to the first X number of first attenders. What do you think of this approach? Do you like it? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Members phkrause Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 So Redwood where is this church? hahahahaha Pretty bad when you need to bride to get people to go to church. But you never know, something good can come from something bad. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators John317 Posted March 10, 2009 Moderators Posted March 10, 2009 To me it sounds too much like a bribe. I don't think we ought to be paying people to come to church, but something that would be good to do is have a van or car pick them up if they can't make it otherwise. Some SDA churches already have a "van ministry," and have been doing it for years. It gives rides to the elderly, to people who don't have a car, and to children whose parents don't go to church. That's not the same as giving people money to come to church, which I think is a bad idea to get started. Once you start giving people money to come to church, they can get used to it, and think that churches have an obligation to do it. At first they are grateful and then they think it's what ought to happen. What you do over and over again as a favor eventually becomes obligatory. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Cosmin M. Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Nope. didn't Jesus/God say that salvation is personal? That is like saying, come to God, we will pay you for it! Though most come just for the card and don't give a care for the sermon. Quote
carolaa Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Is that any different from offering them a bus pass? Maybe it should be based on need rather than marketing. Quote
Members phkrause Posted March 10, 2009 Members Posted March 10, 2009 I also remember somewhere in florida, seeing drive up confessionals. So I guess if your driving and get cut off and start to curse you can drive right up and confess and not have to wait till you can go to church and confess. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Yeah, the same thing that has happened since the government started handing out money to people. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
