Outta Here Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Quote: German school gunman 'kills 16' Sixteen people have been killed after a teenage gunman went on a rampage in south-west Germany, officials say. Among the dead were 10 pupils and three teachers at the Albertville secondary school in Winnenden, north of Stuttgart, police say. The gunman, a 17-year-old former pupil, entered the school at about 0945 (0845 GMT) dressed in black combat gear and opened fire at random. He fled in a stolen car, but was later killed in a shoot-out with police. ...this is the thing I truly dread about the springtime in our schools. Quote
Liz Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 When I first heard this, I was glad that they "got" him, but sad that he is dead. Now they will never know why he did this, was he imbalanced, was he being bullied, what???? If you don't know the cause then you can't prevent it from happening again. Just sad all the way around. I am curious as to why you said it bothered you about "Spring time in the schools"? Does these shootings tend to happen more often in spring? Outta Here Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Spending a little time doing the math from the reports on this site, http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html, you will find that nearly 70% of all deaths from school-related shootings happened in February, March and April. Of the wounded, 46% happened in those three months. I don't think it has anything to do with the weather, however, but with the scheduling of the school year. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted March 11, 2009 Members Posted March 11, 2009 I think you could be on the right track, Aubrey. Did your stats include high school, elementary, and college combined? Or divided up between the three? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Outta Here Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 I just took whatever they supplied on the site. There were universities included with the reports--as well as high schools and elementary schools. Quote
