First Adventist broadcast slated to hit Israeli radio soon

Israeli airwaves will soon broadcast Seventh-day Adventist programming for the first time, Adventist World Radio (AWR) officials announced yesterday.

Programming, in both Hebrew and Russian, will be broadcast via leased airtime on a local FM station and is expected to focus on family, health and spiritual topics, a press release from the radio ministry arm of the Adventist Church said yesterday.

The station's signal covers the central part of Israel, between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv -- where the church's new Adventist Media Center is located -- as well as a large part of the West Bank.

"To start production in Hebrew is not just adding another language to AWR's broadcasting list," said AWR Europe region director Tihomir Zestic. "Sharing the Adventist hope in the country where Jesus [lived], in its own language, is a great honor."

Zestic added that he hoped the programs would "support the unity and growth" of the Adventist Church in Israel.

A group of nearly 30 local lay members, all of whom underwent intensive training, will handle production under the direction of John Lascu, Israel Field radio coordinator and regional media center director. Training for the volunteer team is expected to continue in the coming months.

The launch of Hebrew and Russian programming brings to 77 the number of languages AWR broadcasts worldwide.

I understand the use of Hebrew in broadcast programming for Israel, but I wasn't aware that there was such a large contingency of Russian Jews in Israel. There must be many Jewish immigrants from Russia living there...

"The influx of some 900,000 Russian-speakers since 1989 has increased Israel's Jewish population by almost 20 percent, to 5.2 million. The immigrants, now 14 percent of the population, have made Israel more European, and less religious."

Lots, ever since the wall came down and communism collapsed, Jews have been leaving russia. Do you ever watch daystar channel. They have this christian half hour program that asks for money to help jews to immigrate to Israel.

Well, that's why the nation Israel was established.. a place for Jewish reunification. I hope they can work around the language thing.

Somewhere, I recently read or heard how we are 'blessed' with many languages. Excuse me? That started out as a curse from God. Now, it's a blessing. Hmmmm...

BTW, isn't weird that Jews and Israel are now equated as the same? What about the other tribes? Do the Danites and the Ruebenites like being called Jews? Just curious.

KeyGuy, I know that Jews were called jews because they came from Judah. The only other tribe that was left after Israel was taken into captivity was benjamin. the other tribes where dispersed and never returned to what we know as Israel today. But those taken into captivity from Judah did return to what we know today as Israel. Od course they also dispersed and returned many times.

Do Israelites know of their heritage (pedigree) such as their original tribe and place importance on that like the Mormons do with their family trees?

I think they do. But not sure that they can go back as far as the 12 tribes. I think they have been so persecuted throughout the years and kick out of here and there that its probably very hard trace which tribe they came from.
