GreatLakesGramma Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Last night there was a Winter Jam concert in Grand Rapids, sponsored by Smile FM Christian radio station. My son was one of the volunteers who helped at the concert. Afterward, he spent the night at the home of a friend who lives in Grand Rapids. When he came home today, he was wearing sunglasses with multi-colored flashing lights within the frames around the lenses. Before, during, and after the concert, he walked around wearing, not only the glasses, but other similarly lighted items, including a cross, necklace, light stick, and even a retainer-like object that lighted up his teeth. He carried a large bucket full of these items throughout the stadium to sell to the concert attendees. A few minutes ago, he told me that it was interesting to watch how parents handled the presence of someone walking around selling "weird merchandise" (his own words). Some parents would bring their perfectly behaved children to pick out just one item each. Some would bring their less controlled children and try to get them everything they wanted. And some, upon seeing him, would shudder, grab their kids, and walk the other way as quickly as possible. There was another young person doing the same, and son's friend selling T-shirts at a table. He said that between them all, they grossed about $30,000 for Winter Jam. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. GreatLakesGramma Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 P.S I like your new avatar GLG! My husband got a big laugh out of it when I showed it to him. Amelia Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Light sticks and lighted objects have been all the rage for some time now. Even night clubs sell them. Even though it sounds like the money is going towards Winter Jam, it also sounds like "Junk For Jesus".
