SDA students surprised by response from Iraq

MOUNT VERNON — The students and staff of Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School were pleasantly surprised by the tremendous response from soldiers stationed in Iraq who received “Christmas Care Packages” from the school. Sgt. William Minor initiated the response, which was shared in a full-school assembly presentation Thursday.

A box from the soldiers included notes which Minor’s troops had written to the children, a slide show from a CD of over 150 pictures taken in Kuwait and Iraq and a large United States flag. The flag bore messages and signatures of the soldiers in Minor’s unit. The soldiers told the students their holiday greetings and assurance of friendship and prayer were definitely appreciated.

Principal Carolyn Mattson said the students will continue to keep in touch with the soldiers.
