What is the will of God?

State your answers from the Bible.

The difference between some is that :

Some (like me) know the will of God for my personal life . But we don't know the will of God for anothers life. And don't claim to.

Others feel they not only know the will of God for their life but also the will of God for everyone elses and they will tell you. Even if you know what it is for your life ... they will tell you that you are wrong and that they know better.

Oh well ... you get the picture and I am sure you have met those kinds.

The will of God? No. The will of God is as individual as the individual. Sure there are some general wills of God. But there are also individual ones.

In general but not specifically. IMHO

For instance ... his will in my life is a little differnent than your's. He has taken me on a different path.

Let me just spill the beans and say what I mean.

My beef is that people start claiming that they know what the will of God is for my life or for others. But they can't. I have to pray to God to know His will for my life. And because God takes each of us on a different path. No one can know God's will for MY life.

Do I know the will of God even for the future of my life here on this earth? No. But I willingly submit to whatever may come around the bend.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

We know without question some aspects of God's will. For instance, God's will is always that we will resist and overcome sin by the Holy Spirit's power which He makes available to us.

God's will for everyone is that they have the Holy Spirit. He will always answer that prayer in the affirmative.

His will is ALWAYS that we be wholly sanctified. This is stated plainly in 1 Thess. 4: "This is the will of God, even your sanctification." Compare 1 Thess. 5: 23; 4: 3, 7; 3: 13.

His will is always that we trust and obey Him and His Word.

But beyond those few guarantees, I have to agree that other people are not usually going to know what the will of God is for us. But at the same time, I think it's important for us realize that God often answers our prayers through other believers.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Interesting debate.

So some say it's the 10 commandments.

Other say we don't know.

Others say we will know His will through the Holy Spirit.

The impression I get is that His will can be found through the 10 Commandments, by prayer and through the Holy Spirit.

If it is God's will that all be saved and He is sovereign how do we explain that fact that not all will be saved?

God's will is that we lack nothing and yet millions suffer from lack of even the basic necessities for life?

How can this be?

God's will is that none be sick, yet I have heard many many prayers for healing end with the phrase "if it is your will". Why do we say that when we know His will is that none be sick?

(my first post, go easy on me ;-)

"You may not agree with everyone. But if you are an honest man, when someone says something you disagree with it’ll drive you to the Word. If you find out that you were wrong and change your thinking then you are the better for it. If you go to the Word and find out that you were right then you have been strengthened. But either way always go to the Word!!” Billye Brim
