Suzanne Sutton Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Going Out of Business Sales It's a liquidation sale! When stores go out of business, they usually boast of amazing discounts. In truth, people often end up paying the same--or more!--than you would at full retail! The catch: Once a store declares bankruptcy, an outside company that handles liquidations typically takes over and relabels all the merchandise with higher prices, according to Brent Shelton, spokesperson for FatWallet.com. Result? Even at 10%, 20%, or 30% off, you're still paying more than you would have when the store was holding a regular sale! --Woman's World, April 6, 2009. Suzanne Quote
Joe_in_RP Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 When Circuit city was taken over by a receiver they offered 20% off. My friends walked in and then out. When they closed Compusa they sold things at 20% then a few weeks later 30% then at the end 40% off. No warranty as is. Many things I bought did not work. Apparently these liquidators do not have good morals. Wait until Chrysler and GM go out. Many will get burned on that. A local health store is going out of business and has 20% off. Is that a joke? The good stuff is all gone and they will give me 20% off stuff I don't need. HMMM let me think about that. Quote
Cosmin M. Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 This has been known to me and my family for years. Sometimes, stores say they go out of business but they don't. Quote
Members phkrause Posted April 4, 2009 Members Posted April 4, 2009 I noticed that many going out of business sales are not sales at all. They say 20 to 80% of but they have already raised the price about 400%. So people think there getting a deal but there not. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Dottie Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 You are very right, Cosmin. There is a furniture store in our area which will have a going-out-of-business sale with all the attending hoopla, then show up in another location in a different town. A few years later, the same thing happens. So far, I can remember the same store going out of business at least four times. Quote
Suzanne Sutton Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 You are indeed right, Dottie. Some stores have an annual going out of business sale. And during this the month of April, some stores will claim in their ads that they are going out of business and then say "April Fools" down at the bottom in small print. Suzanne Quote
