Stan Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Galatians 6:6 Let him who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches. RSV Nice thought, of course there are some who will jump up at this and call Paul a legalist, but it is still logical. Members phkrause Posted April 6, 2009 Members Posted April 6, 2009 Very interesting quote and yes very legalistic. hahahaha just kidding. But it is a beautiful statement. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Where is Bravus when you need him. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 6, 2009 Moderators Posted April 6, 2009 Here I are! Why legalistic? I just thought it meant that if someone's job is to teach the word, those taught ought to support him or her... Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I was referring to a Bible discussion here ... but you are cool. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 6, 2009 Moderators Posted April 6, 2009 Ah, no worries. Since The Stan posted it, presumably this doesn't come under what he meant by theology... Quote Truth is important
Neil D Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Ah, no worries. Since The Stan posted it, presumably this doesn't come under what he meant by theology... I think it comes under the heading "Practical Religion" which is different than "Theology"...... ....right? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Moderators Bravus Posted April 7, 2009 Moderators Posted April 7, 2009 Meh, let's not get sidetracked. I'm interested in why Stan thought it might be read as legalistic. I just can't see it myself, so I'm obviously missing something. Quote Truth is important
Neil D Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Why Bravus...I am surprised at you....Surely you can see where some "practical religion" can be rather legalistic, at times....A good example is the concept of forgiveness.... to forgive is rather practical, but it can be rather legalistic to have to go thru that formality of saying "It's ok, I forgive you" or even "I forgive myself"...Legalism,...formailty...there are practicalities even in legalism.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Moderators Bravus Posted April 7, 2009 Moderators Posted April 7, 2009 Um, I think you're confused - it was you who introduced the concept of 'practical religion'. I'm talking about the original text Stan quoted. As I said, to me it just says that if someone shares the Word with you, it's polite and appropriate to share your goods with that person. That just seems like common sense, and is not presented as 'works of the law', so I'm not sure how legalism comes in... Quote Truth is important
Neil D Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 hehehehehe....Sounds rather 'practical' to me.... and if you are feeling 'required' to share your things, isn't that rather legalistic? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
