The cover article in the April 9 Review is very interesting. It just arrived in the mail today and I thought this paragraph was notworthy ...

Quote:
"Being part of the body of Christ means building real relationships, real searching, and real love. As you begin your search for something more, look for books, articles, and sermons by C. S. Lewis, Paula Rinehart, Rick Warren, George Knight, Marty Weber, Jon Paulien, and my personal favorite, Ed Dickerson—people who aren’t afraid to ask or be asked tough questions and can direct you through the process."

Wow .... some pretty powerful leaders listed there. But, who is that Ed guy?

Any way .... the article is great reading. I highly recommend it.

I have a feeling the author of the article attends the same church as Mr Dickerson.

I dunno. I have heard great things in SDA circles about this Ed fellow. In fact ... I myself have placed him with other authors such as George Knight and Jon Paulien.

Hey there buster ... If there ever was a 'lay prophet' ... George Knight would qualify.

George Knight is an ordained minister, isn't he?

I don't know about the minister part. But, many are believing in the prophet part.

I'm not sure about the Prophet part, but we're reading his morning watch devotional for this year, for worship time. Its very informative.

Apparently, he has an M.Div., but I don't know if that necessarily means that he is ordained. I don't think he ever served as a pastor of a congregation.

Far as I can tell he's only been a teacher, and a book author.

Georgie's book "If I Were the Devil" (available at your local ABC) should be a "must read" requirement to every pastor, conference administrators, lay leaders. i preached the first chapter of that book (80% verbatim) in my church - and man did it raffle some feathers. our BC Conference administrators have read the book and have encouraged us in our regional pastor meetings to read it. I'm glad our leaders are open to such questions and thought.

hopefully Paulien and Bradford's Revelation Seminar REMIX will be available to us by fall this year. i can't wait! Paulien's Revelation approach is awesome! and Bradford's book on EGW is simply awesome. he has a video seminar on EGW available as well. a good gift to send to every adventist.

"More Than A Prophet" should have accompanied our last quarter's Sabbath School lesson studies.

Graeme Bradford has two previous books about EGW:

  • Prophets Are Human
  • People Are Human

These are also worth reading.

New Technology

If I were the devil, I would downplay the importance of new technologies in finishing the church’s work. New technology has tremendous power for both good and evil. Too often we have left the field to the devil. H.M.S. Richards once told me that he had to fight the brethren at every step. Radio in 1930 was too new, too radical, too innovative, too untried, a “waste of the Lord’s money.”

I agree with him. However I do not think the church can do this. I think they can be venture capitalists but it needs to come from the lay without interference.

Imagine if a dozen of our most eager college students were given a salary and told " Go spread the Adventist message on the Internet" .

What if 6 brand new youth pastors were giving a salary and told "Mobilize a lay army to support this effort".

Unions are you listening?

I have just observed and heard reports from my friends around the USA, many who are pastors of the power struggle at all levels. Conference, others and of course local churches. The churches are the worst.
