Administrators Gail Posted April 15, 2009 Administrators Posted April 15, 2009 I have appraoched most of my non-adventist friends... and they have very clearly have told me either by word of mouth or via letter that they do NOT want to be around me or hang around me if I continue to be more involved with seventh-day adventists, so by doing so I am loosing friends... Why is it that people can be so hypocritical and judgmental against the SDA's and the SDA's Churches??? Why is it that I have to loose friendships with people just because I want to share Biblical truth with them and more insight into the Bible to help them understand better. If only I can keep my existing friends and as well as make new friends--that will be amazing. One thing I like about Adventists is that they tend to be tolerant. That is one BIG thing that I like! Luke, God's biddings are enablings. He will provide. He can provide friends for you, although it is sad that your non-Adventist friends feel the way they do. I have recently become friends with a Muslim, and I enjoy that very much. I am up front with him about me being a Seventh-Day Adventist and I accept him being a Muslim. We get along very well and have talked about spiritual things. I think you should get ready, as your world is about to open up wider than you have ever expected! Kountzer Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Obviously I was referring to II Tim 3:12. Adventist bible beliefs are radical compared to what other churches and the world believes. If you practice it you are bound to lose contact with the people you knew before, to some extent anyway. Friday night and Saturday are big fun days for many people. If you don't conform to that they think you're strange. If you try to explain the sabbath, the state of the dead, the 2nd coming, 2300 day prophecy, etc, they will think you are strange even more. My 1 year younger sister and I were very close growing up, now we have nothing in common. Of course, it doesn't help any that she doesn't go to church at all. Being an Adventist means that you are VERY CARING, VERY LOVING, AND VERY NUTURING.....these attributes are attracting to people..... ....yet you say that your friends are not wanting you around them.....What are you doing to make them not want to be around you....? Christianity is a personal improvement to you, personality-wise...If you are being obnoxious, deliberately confrontational, or pointing out sin on a continual basis, what is nurturing about that? How can you let others grow when you seek to uproot them/transplant them all the time? by doing these acctivitys, you break the fine roots of friendship...and harm your relationship with others... 'nuff said... Thanks Neil D... But, I am doing nothing to disrupt my relation with my friends... But I should of mentioned that the friends I am loosing have all had very bad experiences with the seventh-day Adventist Church themselves... and so they fear for my sake that I keep my eyes open... True-believer Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 Let's not forget that all of the Millerites were kicked out of their churches, because their fellow church members were hostile to their message. Why would anything be different now? Luke doesn't have to do or say anything obnoxious or offensive to make people with very strongly held beliefs find it offensive that he now believes something contradictory to their cherished doctrines, except to be so excited and happy about the new truths he's learned that he can't refrain from talking about them. That's all it takes to turn closed-minded people from other denominations against you. Or it could be that these friends think that if they turn their backs on him, he might reconsider his connection with the Adventist church. They might be applying what they consider to be "tough love," like that man whose letter TB posted, that called the SDA church a pigpen of vile lies. Thanks Catherine... That is exactly what is happening... I have already lost a very dear friendship with a guy from a baptist church... but this particular church's doctrine was strictly NO female speakers in church... and since I myself agree with female speakers in church this "dear friend" of mine cut off ALL contact with me... and its been almost 18months since I last spoke to him... I am working at mcdonalds currently, and this "friend" came in... and did NOT even look at me... and walked straight pass me without saying a word... why is it that people get so caught up in doctrine matters that they leave their existing friends... its so unfair. It has one high school and just about everything centers around friday night football, and maybe basketball. I was first a baptist, but when I was about 10 or 11 we officially switched over to this church. That whole friday night thing and sunday church attendance worked well. Those 2 areas complimented each other. But the sabbath?? No friday night football?? In SE Texas? Being, or becoming sda in that area, and there aren't many, that is a very radical step. Shekinah Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Dear Luke, I encourage you to stand up for what you believe.I brought my brother in law into the church when he asked me to work on the sabbath and I said no I stood up for not only what I believe but what God has commanded me to do,when we do that Christ shines through us and we become a witness through our faith and others see that.As well ask God to be with you and to put the words in your mouth that when you do set the example the Holy Spirit moves your family and friends God wont leave you standing there alone.remebember PUSH Pray Untill Something Happens as well.
