Planey Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Glad to see you don't mix politics and religion, Red. Very wise on your part. Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Taylor Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Laz, I'd like to attend your church sometime. It sounds like you have a varied membership as far as politics and theology are concerned, but that you minister to all of them successfully. That type of pastor is all too rare. Yes Pastor Lazarus, I concure...I wish you could come preach at my church! Quote
carolaa Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Bonnie, I think Laz pretty clearly stated that conservative SDA is not the same as conservative politically. They are two totally different things. Probably everyone in his congregation, as well as he himself and you yourself, agrees with one or more of the planks in the KKK platform. Not all of their planks are wrong or horrible. Laz stated that there are several similarities between the KKK platform and the conservative [politically] platform, for the purpose of pointing out that KKK is to the right politically. People get confused about that, so it's worth pointing out. Just like some people call Obama a fascist, even though fascism is to the far right politically. I've heard people call Obama a fascist and a communist in the same breath. So these things are worth pointing out. It is really not a big deal if conservatives share some values with the KKK (or vice versa). There are liberal organizations that I feel are wrong, and yet I share some values with them. People are so varied that I don't know how a pastor could even answer your question as to how he/she ministers to certain ones. A pastor often does not even know the political views of all his/her congregation, and most of the time it does not matter. He/she ministers to them *individually* according to their spiritual (and sometimes other) needs. Now...to my point of your bringing attention to the fact that he is a pastor, it did seem to me that you were saying it in a challenging, rather judgmental, way. Like, 'how can you believe that and be a good pastor?' You may not have intended it that way at all, but it is easily interpreted that way. I believe pastors are very vulnerable on this forum. That's why some of them keep their occupation (and their real names) a closely guarded secret. To me, this is a good example of why. Even if you meant no harm by your question, the conversation could become toxic pretty quickly. People have their expectations when it comes to pastors, and woe be to the ones who don't meet them. Woody Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Thank you Carolaa. Well said. I know this is a political thread and thus I should be disagreeing with you. But I will make up for it by pointing out an error in your post. There is NO Laz here. His name is Pastor Lazarus. HA HA HA HO HO HO HE HE HE Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Did you miss where I acknowledged that I had misunderstood his post? Or the fact that I did apologize to him? What is it you would like me to do? How do you minister to those that you see as having the same platform of KKK" So if this is part of what you were acknowdging, apologizing for, whatever, then yes I did miss it. Quote

My question is still the same. The first couple of pages of this topic indicate that Lazarus feels that the right wing conservatives share much in common with the platform of KKK. If this is true and knowing of the varied people that can be in a congregation how would he minister to them. Not would he,Not would he kick them out,not would he address them from the pulpit. How would he as a pastor deal with this? Now if you or Lazarus looks at this as a accusation then it needs to be left alone. Or if you feel that as a pastor no questions should be asked I can live with that just fine There is only one way to say it if a person is wrong about something.I did, what else would you like to hear. We can certainly go back and edit out what you might find as offensive. Lazarus made a statement responding to me that political and religious views are not the same. Up to a point. Because of my SDA views which are first,I am conservative politically. I view liberalism as destructive to the very people liberals claim to be protecting. carolaa Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Right wing conservatives share common values with fascists, too. Some of these values are good, some are not. Left wing liberals share common values with communists and socialists. Some of these values are good, some are not. Hopefully, Christians, including all of Laz's members, embrace the good values and not the bad. I'm just not sure what the point of your question is. What is it that you feel a pastor needs to deal with? Quote

What is it that you feel a pastor needs to deal with? Sorry but it was not a question for you. It was a question for Lazarus. Not as in is he doing it right, not as in he is doing it at all . Or is there a need to do it. And no Lazarus,I do not need the phone number you offered If you have a group of conservatives whose values closely resemble that of a group such as something as evil as the KKK, it is almost impossible to avoid even SDA's that hold a view of conservatism that is less than christian. Just as liberals would have there viewpoints that run counter to a christian view. We now have a president that has inspired a type of hero worship that doesn't appear to healthy to me. Some of what he is doing runs counter to the average SDA belief in seperation of church and state and freedoms in this country Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Taylor Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 heee...I don't think Pastor Lazarus would be giving out that number to anyone, lol. That's funny. While I don't understand the history of it all...it's still funny. Quote
