Is sin-sniffing one of the gifts of the Spirit?

The point is that we don't need to hear individual counsel. All we are going to do with that is to abuse it. After over one hundred years ... we don't know the circumstances or we ignore the context. And we use it to shoot each other.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Red, What if I have the same problem as Brother T? Could Mrs White's counsel be appropriate to me and could God be speaking to me directly through those writings?

Maybe we should throw out the counsels of Paul to the Romans. It could be too personal and we may use it to hurt another brother or sister.

Of course, that happens! It's sad and wrong. But that doesn't make the counsel wrong, it makes me wrong if I use it in a non-Christian way.

We seldom know the circumstances that made the counsel applicable. People are too busy using it as a club.

Just because some use it as a club doesn't mean that we throw it all out.

I saw that expression, Sin-sniffers on a post someplace, I think it may have come from Bonnie, but am willing to stand corrected.

I just think it is a good term.

The question I have to ask "Is sin-sniffing one of the gifts of the Spirit?"

Is it BIBLICAL to be one?

Why would this be considered a gift from God? Sin-sniffing sounds alot like sin-eating.

Sin-eaters would take upon themselves the sins of the dead as a funeral rite/custom. They ate food given them by it being passed over the dead body. The food took upon the sins and then was consumed by the sin-eater. The dead was then guaranteed a place in Heaven. The sin-eater was then paid for the duty. Being a sin-eater was usually a family job; passed from father to son by the son eating the sins of the father.

Jews used to do this same thing. They used a scape goat.

Are sin-sniffers willing to take on the sins of the sniffed?

It is best to throw it out until you know the context and circumstances. There are times that the context is just not known or disclosed.

That's very true Redwood. I have not read through the testimonies, but what I have read is very interesting. And could apply some to myself!

It is best to apply messages of the Testimonies to one's own life, and leave others to do the same. Some of the messages I have read there have helped me to recognize my own weak spots and wrong thinking, shown me issues that were coming between me and God, given me hope and encouragement when I felt hopeless and discouraged, etc.

Yes GLG my point exactly. I think we can find good or bad if that is what we are looking for.
