What is Christ's Righteousness?

I mean really.

Can an anyone articulate it for me?

Is it a philosophical idea?

Is it a metaphor?

“It is the righteousness of God.” What does he mean by that?

1. It is a righteousness planned by God.

2. It is a righteousness prepared by God without any human contribution. (We will see this in more detail as we come to chapter three, verse 21 onwards.)

3. It is a righteousness that is made available by God Himself. I want this to be clear. In the New Testament, we read that it is God Who takes the initiative for our salvation. The Gospel is not conditional Good News. God doesn’t say to the world, and to you and me, “You first have to be good,” or “First you must make yourself disposable to me, then I will save you.” In chapter 5 of Romans, we will discover that, while we were helpless, incapable of saving ourselves, while we were ungodly, while we were enemies, and while we were sinners, God reconciled us to Himself by the death of His Son. God takes the initiative.

Righteousness is love and love is the light and life of God. SOP

His righteousness is His "rightness", His lack of "wrongness", His perfection.

What is His perfection?

His perfect self sacrificing love.

So His righteousness is His love for all.

Now we receive the Robe of Righteousness, it covers us and it also weaves itself into our characters, it clothes us and becomes a part of us.

We receive it by faith...

So we are righteous as we receive His righteousness.

First, let's define Righteousness. Websters says "The state of being right with God"

Now the question is "What is Christs' righteousness?"

Before Christ became a man He was God and of course would be right with God. When He became a man he still was God and kept his right-standing with God. Note: except for when He was made sin FOR us (II Cor. 5:21) until the resurrection.

Now of course, He is the God-Man, forever righteous and forever God. He is in perfect standing with God who raised Him high, and put Him over all things.

Ephesians 1:20-23 tells us "...seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

Christs' righteousness applies to the believer too:

II Corinthians 5:21 "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

We are made the righteousness of God in Him, the believer IS the righteousness of God.
