Woody Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I am so happy to have Hope TV on Direct TV. It's so cool. I can now TIVO it. If I miss something or want it repeated ... I just rewind . Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Dr. Shane Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 It is a great blessing to have Adventist TV in the home. We have the Glorystar system, which does sell DVRs and we have 3ABN on DISH Network. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Woody Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Well ... I have you beat. I have Glorystar and DIRECT TV !! (The best combination) Ha Ha Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Shane Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Well, I don't like paying for TV so someday I may get rid of my DISH Network setup. My wife likes Hallmark movies but someday when she becomes as holy as me [tic] she will give that up and we can disconnect the DISH Network. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... carolaa Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Sounds like you're more cheap than holy! I don't pay for any TV. No cable, no satellite. I finally got the free converter box for those rare occasions I turn on the TV. But I'm just cheap, not holy! Quote

I finally got the free converter box for those rare occasions I turn on the TV. But I'm just cheap, not holy! just fyi, the converter boxes aren't all that great...I got better reception without using one. I'd like to know who the baboon was who thought up the idea that HD was the way ALL TV transmissions must be made. To me, it looks like a big money-maker for HD TV or converter boxes. The local people around here without cable or satellite are really irate about it. If I want a good picture on a station I have to change the rabbit ears on my antenna - and THEN, it might not work. Big pain in the you-know-where. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Dr. Shane Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 The HD signal doesn't travel as far as the analog signal either. So people that live further away from a broadcaster may no longer be able to get reception and will have to buy a satellite dish. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Woody Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 I recommend Glorystar and Direct TV for any of those that live to far out to get the HD reception. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted May 2, 2009 Members Posted May 2, 2009 I thought Pam you had DSL (verison)? If you have either cable or DSL you shouldn't have a problem with reception! The only station that I have a problem with is 3ABN, the video is OK 90% of the time but the audio comes in garbled. Comcast says its not them, that its from the originator. I emailed 3ABN about the problem. They said they would get a holded of comcast but they never could get through. So than I called comcast to let them know this and haven't heard back from anyone now it months. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted May 2, 2009 Members Posted May 2, 2009 I *do* have DSL for my computer, but it's hard to watch on a little tiny screen HOPE channel... Woody Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 You need a big screen TV Pam. The main wall of my living room is filled with my system. IF you need advice on setting up your system ... let me know. My advice ... get the best. My surround sound will knock your socks off. It vibrates the entire house. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted May 2, 2009 Members Posted May 2, 2009 I can't afford satellite or cable. Members phkrause Posted May 2, 2009 Members Posted May 2, 2009 OooohhhH now I see said the blind man. I thought you had comcast or verison for cable TV. So you just have the internet through verison. But can't you hook up your mac to the TV? Oh I think not, you need a HDTV to do that. Or you could buy a bigger monitor and hook your mac to that! I believe that the mac can run to monitors! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted May 2, 2009 Members Posted May 2, 2009 Again, no extra money to do something like that. Wish I could. We *had* noticed some breaks in the video and chalked it up to needing a better antenna. Hmmmmmm. Doesn't sound good. Quote

Dr. Shane Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Again, no extra money to do something like that. Wish I could. The Glorystar system does not cost any monthly fees. It only costs $200 if you can find someone to install it. Talk with your pastor and see if someone at church can install it for you and perhaps I can budget it in to spring for the system. But if there is no one that can install it, buying it will be no good. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
GreatLakesGramma Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I'd like to know who the baboon was who thought up the idea that HD was the way ALL TV transmissions must be made. To me, it looks like a big money-maker for HD TV or converter boxes. The local people around here without cable or satellite are really irate about it. I read that the point was to free up the airwaves for other things. We don't watch TV, though we do have one, to watch videos with. But our son bought one of those converter boxes himself, just in case. He's had it in his room, and I didn't even know he had it. But last week, he was in an agony of suspense over the final episode of the season of "Chuck" which he normally watches on Hulu. He couldn't wait until morning to see it online, so he wanted to watch it on the TV. When he connected his box to the TV, there was only one channel that came in well, which he said was because of the cheap antenna we have. So he went to town and bought a better one, and was able to watch his program. Thankfully, he didn't leave all his stuff connected to the TV, for me to have to dust every week.
