LLHBeck Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 In our Sabbath School class a few weeks ago, we were challenged to look into praise, and that we need to do more of it. We are very good making our wants known to God, and pretty good at telling Him thank you. But praising Him???? Yes I can read what others have put on paper, like hymns and Psalms in the Bible. But something original is quite another thing. Very seldom do I hear praise in public prayers at church. What do you think?? Why is it so hard to come up with something original to just praise God? I think it is an almost lost art. Yet the angels in heaven praise continually. hope some one has some ideas. Blessing to all Lorna Quote
Administrators Gail Posted May 8, 2009 Administrators Posted May 8, 2009 They do it regularly in the church I attend There is a Psalm that talks about praising God... hmm... let me see if I can remember which one. Here it is- Psalm 105 is full of ways to praise the Lord: Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced I am trying to memorise this... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 8, 2009 Administrators Posted May 8, 2009 Also Hebrews 13:15,16 talks about the "sacrifice of praise". Perhaps it is a sacrifice because we don't do it enough and/or don't FEEL like doing it enough! Quote: Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 8, 2009 Administrators Posted May 8, 2009 The awesome thing about praise is the effect it has upon YOU. Try it! Anytime! Then get back to tell us what happens. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Woody Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 One way we praise or glorify Him ... is through our "good works". He loves it when He sees us feeding and clothing the poor for instance. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted May 9, 2009 Moderators Posted May 9, 2009 Our greatest praise, IMHO, is to believe what God says and obey Him. Quote
