Quote:
The Seventh-day Adventist Church traces its origins to the Adventist movement of the 1840s.

Adventists (also known as Millerites) were followers of Baptist preacher William Miller, who taught that Christ would return to Earth in 1844. The year 1844 came and went without incident, causing many followers to leave the movement.

In 1863, the group organized as the Seventh-day Adventist Church under the leadership of James White and his wife, Ellen. Ellen White's writings are a source of church guidance and instruction.

Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and practices include:

> Observing the sabbath on Saturday

> Abstinence from alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs. Most Seventh-day Adventists also are vegetarians.

> The doctrine of investigative judgment. The church teaches that, since 1844, "heavenly intelligences" have been working to determine who is saved and who is lost.

> A belief in heaven, but not in hell. Upon Christ's second coming, the church teaches, the saved will be taken to Heaven but the lost will die.

As of 2007, the church claimed a membership of more than 15 million people worldwide, including about 1 million in the United States.

dgrimm60,

PRAISE THE LORD "we" don't have the same belief re: hell as the rest of Christianity does!!

The "mainstream" belief is beyond horrifying to me scared , so grossly misrepresents the character of God....... I lack the vocabulary to express it.

As I hit "submit" the thought struck me that it was that difference in belief was exactly what the writer had in mind, but I figured it wasn't worth adding anything. Thanks for point it out.

Morning Glory
