Planey Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 This is a very interesting article. The Earth is an evolving dynamic system. Current changes in climate, sea level and ice are within variability. Atmospheric CO2 is the lowest for 500 million years. Climate has always been driven by the Sun, the Earth’s orbit and plate tectonics and the oceans, atmosphere and life respond. Humans have made their mark on the planet, thrived in warm times and struggled in cool times. The hypothesis that humans can actually change climate is unsupported by evidence from geology, archaeology, history and astronomy. The hypothesis is rejected. A new ignorance fills the yawning spiritual gap in Western society. Climate change politics is religious fundamentalism masquerading as science. Its triumph is computer models unrelated to observations in nature. There has been no critical due diligence of the science of climate change, dogma dominates, sceptics are pilloried and 17th Century thinking promotes prophets of doom, guilt and penance. When plate tectonics ceases and the world runs out of new rocks, there will be a tipping point and irreversible climate change. Don’t wait up. Some interesting points here, don't you think? By the way, the bolding is mine, not his. And it should be noted that Ian Plimer is an outspoken evolutionist and has been involved in a number of well-publicised deabtes with leading creationists such as Ken Ham and Carl Wieland, Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
True-believer Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I see people still wanting to believe that being an ostrich is the smartest move going!! Of course... It would be awesome to be an ostrich!!! Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Planey Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 The above writer has nothing but disconnected rhetoric. Did you check the link at the top of my post, CoA? This is a review of a new book by Plimer which has just been published, called Heaven and Earth. Plimer is Professor of the Geology Department at Adelaide University, and has been awarded the following: * Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering * Eureka Prizes (x2) * Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy * Fellow Geological Society * Clarke Medal * Leopod von Buch Plakette So as you can see his scientific credentials are not too bad. His book has got plenty of science in it, many graphs and cites from research. Remember that the quote in the OP is one short paragraph from a full book. Planey Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 This could perhaps illustrate what Plimer was talking about with his "fundamentalist religion" statement: Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
fccool Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 The reason that this is even an issue is because Climate Change effects today are being exaggerated intentionally to be used as political tools. There are people who ride in Washington on the "climate change" issue. Al Gore has no other woes other than flying around the world advocating the climate laws. Who do these laws benefit? Surely... not the poor and destitute. What really drives me crazy is that the same people who advocate these laws in Washington... are the same people who do nothing, and at times even oppose the progress of more efficient technologies and renewable fuel sources that don't cost trillions of dollars on government side to develop. And do you know why? Click here , for a small example of that. Tax revenues from gasoline exceed profits of the oil companies. So, if all of a sudden you had a car that could drive 100 mpg, instead of 20... what do you thing would happen to the 60 billion in proceeds to the state governments yearly? Instead they are flying around the world and wanting the developing countries, who have the manufacturing base and become too competitive... they want these countries to cut down on manufacturing because they "threaten climate". Give me a break! It's not about science. Science can be twisted any way you want to when it comes to issue like weather... which have so many variables. There's this dubious problem of overpopulation. And there are think tanks in government who think this is a big problem and that the population should be reduced... and Al Gore is one of these "humanists". Now, if you really want to know what these people want... check out a link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Malthus Quote
Members phkrause Posted May 15, 2009 Members Posted May 15, 2009 I remember many years ago reading a copy of "Popular Mechanics" and some other magazines, not sure which ones. But they had someone that had invented a carburator that could do around 150 mpg. There was also someone in england that had invented something similar to that. But within months of these stories those people and there products disappeared! I had heard and read that they were payed off. So we've had and have the knowledge to made cars go longer on a tank of gas! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. carolaa Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 It's true. Close to a hundred inventors have either disappeared or been bought off and their hard work sits on a shelf somewhere. Just do a search for disappearing inventors. People are scared off from promoting their inventions for profit and have resorted to posting their info online for free. Do a search for hydrogen converters. Quote
fccool Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I don't think that anyone would disagree with the negative impact that humans have on environment. I don't think that this is even the issue here. The problem is the conflict of interests when it comes between solid science and government/corporate sponsored research, and the "solutions" that are proposed to save the earth. One of such quite disturbing "solutions" that is downplayed much by the media is population control... as verbalized by some of the worlds prominent "humanists" David Graber, a research biologist with the National Park Service, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times Book Review Section, October 22, 1989, as saying, "Human happiness and certainly human fecundity are not as important as a wild and healthy planet. I know social scientists who remind me that people are part of nature, but it isn't true...We have become a plague upon ourselves and upon the Earth...Until such time as homosapiens should decide to rejoin nature, some of us can only hope for the right virus to come along." In the UNESCO Courier of November 1991, Jacques Cousteau wrote, "The damage people cause to the planet is a function of demographics-it is equal to the degree of development. One American burdens the earth much more than twenty Bangladeshes... This is a terrible thing to say. In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it's just as bad not to say it." So, when some of the virii accidentally escape the labs ... it really makes me wonder. Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted May 29, 2009 Moderators Posted May 29, 2009 Might wanna have a look at this before taking Professor Plimer's points too seriously, Planey: http://blogs.news.com.au/couriermail/gre...ugh_the_screen/ Quote Truth is important
Planey Posted May 29, 2009 Author Posted May 29, 2009 Yes, I had already noted a lot of criticism of Plimer's views from many scientific quarters. However the reason I posted the original item was that I found it irresistible. Scientists of a creationist bent find it very difficult to have their papers published by reputable scientific peer-reviewed magazine such as Science. They are often accused of pseudo-science among other things. Ian Plimer has been one of the most vocal of the anti-creationist critics. And now he is finding out what it is like to try and publish a viewpoint that goes against the current scientific paradigm. Like I said, absolutely delicious to watch. To quote dgrim, hahahahaha hehehehehe hohohohoho Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
