Guest truthseeker007 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 When i study the bible i am always looking for parallels and structures. Some adventists believe that the creation week has a deeper meaning, taking a day for a thousand years. The first six days, equal 6000 years, (that is i believe in the year 2030) and the next thousand years is the millenium (sabbath day). However i was thinking about the parallel of Jesus his death and ressurection. He died and then on the third day rose again. If you take 1 day for a thousand years, Jesus is gone for 2000 years (since his death in 30 A.D.), and the next thousand years is the millenium. There is only little scriptural support; "After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him." (Hos 6:2). Also, didn t Jesus explicitly tell his disciples not to focus on the date of his return? But maybe it was just meant for the disciples because they shouldn t be discouraged by the fact that they had to wait 2 thousand years to be resurrected. So whay do you all think?? Quote
Guest WilloMar Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Oh, I really hope it's not going to be another 21 years, or there abouts. But, I suppose it could be since I've been expecting Jesus to come for sixty-some years now. We know He will come unexpectedly like a thief. Also, we're told not to set a time for His coming. However, it's up to us to be ready whenever that time is. Let's prepare for that time! Quote
aldona Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Hi Truthseeker, God has blessed you with an enquiring mind and it is always good to see human intellect being used to glorify God. If it was not for students of the Bible looking for parallels and structures, we would not have the teachings that we have today as a denomination. But this is just my humble 2 cents worth, coming from someone who (aged only 30-something) has already burned out on date setting. I have survived those who circulated pamphlets in our church stating that Jesus was coming in 1996. I have survived the predictions of the end of the world in 2000. (Then 2001, for those who argued that this was the real start of the millennium). I have been through all the "Bible Codes' material that had the end of the world occurring in 2006. I seem to recall something big was going to happen in 2008. The latest "big one" that everybody is focused on now is in 2012. Something about all of the ancient calendars all agreeing that the world will end then. I have fellow Adventists running around all the time screaming that it is really soon now, and it will be any time now, and this is it, and we REALLY have to be ready. The problem is, they have been doing this constantly for as long as I can remember. (my dad remembers similar pronouncements in 1940's wartime Poland, probably with better reasons than those which drive us comfortable well-fed believers in wealthy nations). So, whether I like it or not, I have become like the audience of the boy who cried out "Wolf!". I have switched off completely. When the date-setters and doom-mongers sense that an increasing number of us are reacting this way, they just shout "Wolf!!!" louder and with greater urgency. On the other hand, we could live as though Jesus is coming today. Or better still, live our lives as though He is right here with us now. A lifetime of setting one date after another, watching one set of "signs" after another, regrouping after each milestone is passed and saying "Well, it wasn't 2006, but it will DEFINITELY be 2008 - I'm sure of it this time"...I cannot bear the thought of a life lived like that. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? LifeHiscost Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Also, we're told not to set a time for His coming. However, it's up to us to be ready whenever that time is. Let's prepare for that time! None of us are guaranteed the next heartbeat. So, for any one of us, it(His coming) could be before the next day dawns. "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."Matthew 24:44 KJV Knowing my own heart, that will require a Divine miracle. Thank God He is willing to provide that miracle. "I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?"Jeremiah 32:27 NIV Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
True-believer Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks Aldona... Your posts are always a breath of fresh air like Bravus has stated. Let us live our lifes like Jesus could return today, tomorrow, and stop setting dates. The Bible has warned us NOT to set dates--including years. I am just eagerly awaiting for His soon return to take us with Him to heaven for a thousand years. ...............(But if your pentecostal or baptist, you go to heaven upon death,).........why do they beat us adventists to heaven??? Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Warning - theologically incorrect joke follows... Two Adventists are walking along the golden streets of heaven, admiring the wonders all around them. "Isn't it beautiful here!" exclaims one of them. "It sure is," replies his friend. "And if it wasn't for all those vegefoods, we could have been here 10 years sooner!!!" aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Guest truthseeker007 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks Aldona for your response. I agree with you. When i hadn t heared of the SDA church yet i went through the same nonsense as you did. All the bible codes, different date settings and even Roman catholics who claimed to have received visions from Mary. The mark of the beast was supposed to be a microchip, some US president would be the antichrist, the CIA is a satanic society blablabla. All this worldy nonsense i once believed. So in this perspective i wouldn t urge anyone to focus on the date of Jesus his return. First we ve got a tremendous task to do, i believe we should focus on that task. However Jesus said that his brethren would not be in darkness at his second coming. In other words, we expect him to come. But just like Jesus said, nobody knows the day or the hour. (he didn t say year though) So in short, my date-setting thoughts are too speculative to pay serious attention to. Quote
True-believer Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 But just like Jesus said, nobody knows the day or the hour. (he didn t say year though) Jesus didn't say nothing about the year though... I don't think they were even worried about that back then... Remember Jesus only used the word, "SOON"... He didn't say anything else but that word, "SOON"... No dates, times or years of His return... It will just be "SOON". Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Woody Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 The point is that the date does not matter. If fact .... if someone gives a date ... you can be sure that is NOT the date. God doesn't want us to have dates for that would delay our getting to know Him. We need to be ready right now at this very second. Praise God for those who are saved now ... not at some future date. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
