True-believer Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 While thousands crammed into the Joyce Center Arena at Notre Dame University this past Sunday to pay homage to the man who is the most powerful defender of abortion-on-demand in America, another group of Notre Dame seniors held their own graduation ceremony. They called it the Class of 2009 Vigil for Life. And they honored me with the invitation to come and lead them in prayer at the very hour that pro-abortion President Obama was receiving his honorary law degree from the University. Having just come back from that incredible event, I can tell you this. Although the number of seniors gathered at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes on the Notre Dame campus was smaller than those inside the Joyce Center Arena, their witness to truth and life was far more powerful than the blatant hypocrisy spouted by Barack Obama. In standing with these students, I was standing with the true spirit of Notre Dame: a pro-life spirit, in harmony with human reason and Catholic Faith. I am greatly encouraged by the pro-life activities of so many student groups on the Notre Dame campus ... activities that are carried out all year round. What's more, the betrayal of Notre Dame's mission which President Fr. John Jenkins perpetrated when he chose to honor Barack Obama on Sunday has only served to strengthen the pro-life commitment and resolve of those Notre Dame seniors I prayed with and spoke to on Sunday. Seeing this, I encouraged them to go out into the world to plant pro-life seeds in their local communities. In doing so they will manifest in their lives the real meaning of commencement; namely, to carry out the witness to truth and service that their hard-earned degrees have prepared them to give in the world. This selfless work is terribly important in our world today. Especially when you consider the fact that so many of our fellow Catholics don't have a problem with Barack Obama sitting in a place of honor at a Catholic Commencement. That is a corollary of the underlying problem that millions of our fellow Americans don't have a problem with Barack Obama sitting in the White House. Make no mistake. Our concern is not just that Obama is at odds with Catholic teaching. Not in the least. Our concern is that he is at odds with American teaching and the very meaning of public service - which requires being able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. Barack Obama should neither be at Notre Dame nor in the White House. And that's what I told those Notre Dame graduates. I urged them to be true to their calling to be ambassadors for Christ. True to their Catholic Faith. True to their American citizenship. And true to their pro-life values. I then commissioned them to dedicate their lives to our shared mission to end legalized abortion-on-demand in America. Right now I'm inviting you to help them do that by clicking here and sending Priests for Life the largest contribution you can make today. Your financial help is needed because Priests for Life is putting together "Pro-Life Seed Packs" that we are going to send to every Notre Dame senior that was at the Class of 2009 Vigil for Life. Included in each packet will be: → A copy of my book "Ending Abortion" → A pamphlet they can give to their parish priest entitled "Addressing Abortion with Confidence" → A Study Guide to the US Bishops' "Living the Gospel of Life" so they will know why our bishops call the fight to end abortion "the fundamental civil rights issue of our day." → A dozen "Everyone Against Abortion Please Raise Your Hand" brochures → A dozen "Caesar Must Obey God" brochures → A dozen "Abortion: None of Your Business" brochures → A dozen "How To Encourage Your Priest to be Actively Pro-Life" brochures → A dozen "Responses to Pro-Abortion Politicians" brochures →A dozen "When Life Begins: Matter of Belief or Matter of Fact?" brochures As you can see, God has brought tremendous good from what easily could have been tremendous evil. For in addition to sending "Pro-Life Seed Packs" to those Notre Dame seniors who attended the Vigil for Life on Sunday ... ... Priests for Life is going to produce "Pro-Life Seed Packs" to hand out at every stop of our upcoming "Pro-life Freedom Rides"! Thousands of them, to students and to all our fellow citizens alike who are in this cause! But we're going to need your financial help to do so. That's why it is so important that you click here and send Priests for Life a contribution so we can give pro-life activists - most especially those Notre Dame graduates I prayed with on Sunday - the tools they need to build a vibrant and active pro-life movement in their local communities. Preliminary estimates put the cost of each "Pro-Life Seed Packs" at right around $25. That is a small price to pay in our fight to end abortion. A fight we are WINNING, by the way. The most recent Gallup survey proves that your years of sacrifice and perseverance are paying off. For the first time since 1995 when it first asked Americans this question: With respect to the abortion issue, would you consider yourself to be pro-choice or pro-life? ... a majority of Americans say they are PRO-LIFE! And that by a margin of 51 - 42 percent! Moreover, the poll showed that while 22% of those surveyed think that abortion should be legal under any circumstances, 23% said it should be illegal under all circumstances! This, again, is a significant shift from just a few years ago. And a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center confirms the same pro-life shift in America! So momentum is clearly on our side. Now we need to sustain that momentum, build on it, and increase it. And the best way to do that is to establish a strong, vibrant, active and vocal pro-life presence in every city, village and town in America. Which is precisely why I'm asking you to click here and help Priests for Life produce and distribute "Pro-Life Seed Packs" all across the country. Make no mistake. A pro-life revolution is sweeping the country. Years and years of hard work, consistent witness, bold preaching, and tireless education have made a majority of our fellow Americans aware of just how terrible and unjust abortion truly is. Now is the moment to capitalize on all that spade work. It's taken us a long time to prepare the soil, but it is now ready to receive the "Pro-Life Seeds" that Priests for Life is beginning to sow in cities and towns all across America. So please be as generous as you possibly can today. The first thing you need to do is re-dedicate yourself to the fight to end abortion! Now is not the time to abandon the youngest members of our human family. Rather, now is the time to rise up and fight for them like never before. To that end, I ask you to do two things right now. 1. PRAY. Resolve to pray for an end to abortion. Pray for this every day ... without ceasing. Prayer is our strongest and most powerful weapon in our fight to expel the abortion demon from our midst. Pray in solidarity with our Notre Dame seniors who boycotted the President and invited me instead. They asked if you would pledge rosaries for the conversion of our nation. You can access their prayer campaign at our own prayer website, www.PrayerCampaign.org. 2. Click here and send Priests for Life the largest gift you can make today. Your dollars are needed so that Priests for Life can do on a massive nationwide scale what we are about to do with those young Notre Dame graduates I prayed with on Sunday; namely, ... give them the "seeds" they need to plant a vibrant and fruitful pro-life vineyard in their homes and communities. Join me today as we - the people of life - act in SOLIDARITY with those Notre Dame graduates I prayed with on Sunday. Let us give of ourselves so that they can carry on our great work of instilling in all Americans a deep and abiding respect for the sanctity and dignity of all innocent human life. And if I may ask you one more favor. Each year I survey our supporters to learn how we can serve their needs more effectively. After giving your donation, would you take a moment and fill out the short survey I've placed at www.priestsforlife.org/survey. It is very important to me to know what you're thinking about our ministry! Thank you for your much-needed help today and may God bless you. Sincerely yours in the Risen Lord, Fr. Frank Pavone National Director, Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries NOTE: If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to Priests for Life and send it to us at PO Box 141172, Staten Island, NY 10314.
