"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

War...huh...yeah

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing

Uh ha haa ha

War...huh...yeah

What is it good for?

Absolutley nothing...say it again y'all

War..huh...look out...

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...listen to me ohhhhh

WAR! I despise,

'cos it means destruction of innocent lives,

War means tears to thousands of mother's eyes,

When their sons gone to fight and lose their lives.

I said WAR!...huh...good God y'all,

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...say it again

War! Huh...What is it good for (Edwin sings 'Wohh oh Lord' over the top)

Absolutely nothing...listen to me

WAR! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,

War. Friend only to the undertaker.

Ohhh! War is an enemy to all mankind,

The thought of war blows my mind.

War has caused unrest within the younger generation

Induction then destruction...who wants to die? Ohhh

WAR! good God y'all huh

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...say it say it SAY IT!

WAR!...uh huh yeah hu!

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...listen to me

WAR! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,

War! It's got one friend that's the undertaker.

Ohhhh! War has shattered many a young man's dream,

Made him disabled, bitter and mean,

Life is much too short and precious to spend fighting wars these days.

War can't give life, it can only take it away!

Ohhh WAR! huh...good God y'all

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...say it again

War!...huh...woh oh oh Lord

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing...listen to me

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker,

War. Friend only to the undertaker...woo

Peace lovin' understand then tell me,

Is there no place for them today?

They say we must fight to keep our freedom,

But Lord knows there's got to be a better way.

Ohhhhhhh WAR! huh...good God y'all...

What is it good for?...you tell me!

Say it say it say it saaaay it!

War! good God now...huh

What is it good for?

Stand up and shout it...NOTHING!

I used to listen to that song growing up. This is the last place I expected to see that. I agree with the sentiments it expresses.

Nevertheless the bible says there will be wars and rumors of wars...

nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

I guess the bottomline this side of eternity is 'seek peace, but carry a strong nuclar arsenal.'

Hi Tom,

Great song.....loved it back in the day, and it still caused me to stop and listen a moment ago when hubby fired it up. Didn't know all the words, tho. Thanks for posting them.

War SHALL continue until Jesus comes and puts a final stop to sin, but that doesn't mean that it should be now.....war, that is.

War is good for jump starting the economy, helping big corporations to make money, reducing the world's population, increasing the winner's ownership of natural resources....

Totally agree with the sentimenys expressed in thi song.

Greatly enjoyed Edwin Starr's version.

The Boss did it justice as well.

Memorial Day is a time for the families of fallen heroes to be comforted. I think we need to remember that.

"There was war in Heaven"

Was it good for "absolutely nuthin'"?

When we decided that war was to be fought (like in Viet Nam and even Korea) like a game, with no clear objective and no dedication to 100% victory, then we turned war into a sham and paid way too high a price for our unnecessary deaths.

Waging war to protect your freedoms is not pretty or romantic. It's brutal, sickening, offensive to everything good within us, but is absolutely necessary.

In all but very few instances, our country has waged war for the right reasons. We have fought most wars with integrity and I'm proud of our men and women in the military. If only we could keep politics out of our wars, we'd win faster and with fewer lives lost.

I'm proud to be a Hawk. NEVER start a fight, but NEVER lose one worth fighting.

I loved the song in the 60s and 70s but it is an oversimplified view of war, which was necessary during the antiwar movement.

However the truth is that history attests of the great importance and influence of war. We're a nation because of war. We'd be two nations without war. Blacks are free because of a war. We're free from Nazi and fascist domination because of war. It's impossible to conceive of the nations as they exist today without wars. So, war does some good in this dangerous world. Given the way that humanity is, war really is a necessary evil. Tragic, yes, but true nonetheless.

If North Korea or Iran or even China fire nuclear or atomic weapons at us, you will see war like you never saw it before; and it will be fought to try to keep us and our children alive.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

There are a lot of us Americans that fear we may avoid war to the point that we place ourselves at a distinct disadvantage, like Britain under Chamberlain pre-WWII.

It's way better to fight and win a small war than to wait 'til it becomes a big war with greater odds against victory.
